Hey everyone… for those of you who are in Canada - preferably Vancouver - how are the job prospects for a qualified worker? I live in the East Coast right now, but am planning to move to either Toronto or Vancouver in a few years once the CFA exams are completed and I gain some good work experience. (finished CFA level I, B.Comm and Master of Finance from lowly ranked school) I know Toronto is the core of Canada’s financial industry…BUT I LOVE Vancouver and would settled for a mediocore job if I could live downtown Vancouver for a few years and experience the environment it has to offer… (and it’s not as big of a city as Toronto) I’d appreciate any feedback!! (I have a somewhat plan to pursue an MBA at either UBC or UofT in order to move out and be able to network for a job during the program… but I know UBC would only mainly be a good choice if I wanted to stay in the area)
I just want to say that I love Vancouver, too. I would kill somebody to go living there. At least you are Canadian. For me it’s a “little bit” more difficult since I’m in Europe.
+1 for Vancouver. Anyone knows of good financial firms based in BC?
Currently in Vancouver… Really tough, but I’m new a grad and only a Level 3 candidate so maybe you’ll have more luck. If you want a job, I suggest going to Toronto. Calgary is quite hot for anything CFA right now. Most of my finance interviews have been for positions in Calgary. Vancouver is great if you want to be an accountant… really tough employment environment right now, especially for finance.
Thanks for the feedback guys I wish Vancouver was big on Finance positions…It’s my dream city to live in, BUT I know Toronto/Calgary have so much opportunity for good paying jobs related to this work Such a debate in my mind… haha… I’ll stick it out a few more years in this tiny city and by the time I’d ready to move, maybe the economy will be booming again and finance jobs will actually be available!!
What’s a baller salary in Vancouver? I am considering relocating from NYC
^1/3rd your current salary (unless unemployed)…
Depending on your skill level, area of expertise, and years of experience, there are plenty of decent finance positions in Vancouver ($100K+), as you would find in many other major cities.
are you in van Anon ?
Yes, I’m in Vancouver (work in a corp. finance/treasury role)
+10 for van
