One of my co-workers was a caddy in high school. he was telling me about how all these people in finance were always golfing throughout the weekdays. it seems like a lot of people i work with never have the free time. what kind of job in finance allows workers to golf during work hours?
High-end brokers(the kind who worked for Marth Stewart), Relationship managers.
retail private client brokers i.e. salespeople
I think executives in companies do when meeting with clients, etc.
wholesalers, take brokers/advisors out for a round in hopes they will sell your crap
Sales…commercial bankers.
accountants and CPAs take out clients just as much too. however, those that spent too much time on the course are likely out of a job now boooeeeyyyy…
I may try to hustle back my old caddy job this summer…no joke.
caddying was by far the best job i’ve ever had
dspapo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > caddying was by far the best job i’ve ever had Paid in cash, worked outdoors, good exercise and free golf. It was not a bad racket. Seriously, I’m considering trying to hustle a few loops this summer since I’ll be out of work after tax season. Likewise it may not be a bad idea to get chummy with some big shots as I’m entering business school.
keep in mind not everyone in finance is an investment banker. I play golf about 2-3 times a month and so does roughly everyone in my office.
I used to play 5 times a week during work, after work, or on the weekends. Being a field engineer among the service companies had its rewards, sigh
At my former job as a commercial credit analyst I saw the lenders golfing during work hours 2 to 3 times per week on average. One of the more productive lenders golfed every day. He used to joke that he was not a lender, but rather a professional golfer.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I’m a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald… striking. So, I’m on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga… gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the 18th and he’s gonna stiff me. And I say, “Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.” And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.” So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.
thats a peach hun!
There was one time in the late 90s, I saw Dalai Lama in person at a conference talking to a few reporters. From the way he handled the Q&A and his body languages, he is quite different from the kind person I had in mind. He is actually kind of a bossy and shady jerk… Lost my respect for him from then on.
Seriously now though, ever since I started on this CFA program bull$hit, I struggle to fall below 100… I used to play 6 times/month, now its more like 6 times a year. How sad! What’s everyones handicap? I’ve too been a caddy be4. You need to have good peoples skills and be organized to be successful at it
caddyshack bump.
It’s easy to grin, when your ship comes in. And you’ve got the stock market beat, But the man worthwhile, Is the man who can smile, When his shorts are too tight in the seat.
