Joint Probability

[question removed by admin]

My solution:

P(A) = 0.4

P(B|A) = 0.60

But am stuck.

Is the question asking for P(AB)?

P(A and B) when P(A) and P(B) are dependent, is the following: P(B|A) * P(A)

When they are independent, P(A and B) = P(A) * P(B)

If they are mutually exclusive, obviously, then P(A and B) = zero

For the record, this formula is correct whether A and B are independent or not (and note that it’s _ A _ and _ B _ that are independent or not, not P(A) and P(B) that are independent or not). The key is that if they’re independent, P(B|A) = P(B).

ah, clear! thanks for correcting

P(A and B) is the following: P(B|A) * P(A) Is also P(A|B)*P(B)

P(A and B) is the following: P(B|A) * P(A) Is also P(A|B)*P(B)

I saw second thread where question was removed… why was that? Just curious…
