Josef Fritzl vs Bernie Madoff

Interesting debate. Who is a worse human being? Both were deceitful in numerous ways… Both intended to perpetuate their crimes until their deaths… Fritzl acted alone but it is appears Madoff did not. From a societal viewpoint Fritzl’s crime was heinous beyond anything most can imagine. Madoff’s crime while terrible does not hold the social stigma that incest and rape hold.

The people here who believe that Madoff did the worst crime are clueless beyond comprehension. The ability to fall alseep at night knowing you created a ponzi scheme that made you rich, while stealing off others would be RELATIVELY EASY. The ability fall alseep knowing you rape your daughther everyday, lock her up for 24 years, not speak a word to her for 9 years, father her children, kill one of them, lie about all this to your wife…would be indescribeable. There was an “incentive” for Madoff to create the ponzi scheme (greed). What is the motivation behind Fritzl’s actions?..pure evil…

I just puked.

History will remember the name Josef Fritzl more then it will remember Bernie Madoff. Not everyone lives in the world of finance.

Fritzls crime is much much worse. While Madoff’s may effect more people this does not overpower the evil involved in Fritzls acts.

Ok but if there were only 2 jail cells left… one was a tiny bit nicer than the other. Who deserves to get the nicer cell?

I’d say the punishment should fit the crime. Fritzl should get ass raped everyday until he dies. Madoff should… well he should be ass raped everyday until he dies as well.

some guys like a good ass raping every now and then

Well if Fritzl and Madoff are one of those guys… I guess they need to be teased and denied every day.

lol, if they were one of those guys who enjoy it as bchadwick says, maybe make them watch CFA candidates taking the tests 24/7 and deny them the test taking (which is a good a$$ raping)

My answer would be Fritzl hands-down on this one but i think the skew of answers here is far more interesting than the question: You ask a bunch of financial professionals/budding finance pros whether a financial crime is more important than incest, rape, murder and a significant proportion justify why the financial crime is more horrendous (wider impact, amount of money etc). Some people even support the Fritzl argument by talking about tax payers money needed for the case/care for children. The operating word in all of these arguments is money, which is flawed (but also interesting) from my point of view. Money will make everyone do things we do not want to do (a given), lots of money is a reason to do bad things (of course), money is also a way of measuring the size of the crime (i can just about follow) but i dont think that money can be compared in absolute terms to morals. My proof of this would be: If you strip out the money from the equation, then one man lied and stole what wasnt his and the other man did very terrible things. If you add money to the Fritzl side, i dont think him doing what he did for money makes him more evil, although i guess that it may get him a few more votes from people on this forum.

So, um, how’s the weather?

.

Sorry to bump the old discussion. I guess any woman even high rank in the financial world would still pick fritzl, and be horrified that this question could be raised. Men even not in the financial world would still have serious or slight doubts whether Fritzl is worse than madoff, and still think that the question is legitimate. I don’t want to make any conclusions. Well, to be good, it’s probably because men are traditionally “providers”, so losing money for a guy is like losing his substance, his manhood, it’s probably like a psychological rape. I have some slight doubts that would be the only reason, but I would let it go for now. It would be interesting if it would be possible to estimate the wealth of all the participants.

LOL really? You’re bumping a year+ old thread on a stupid comparison.

This reminds me of “Freakanomics.” Shoot 'em both.

^ I wonder why “Ocean 11” was a hit, and Madoff is compared with Fritzl.

^haha and what’s the name of that French trader. Seems he was handsome enough as he really got a lot of fans, even among investment bankers Jerome Kerviel is his name Ocean 11 is too low in scale in comparison with both. They should raise their appetite in the next sequel
