Jr Trader or Trading Assistant

Hi All, I have a little over three and a half years of experience between BO/Ops in the hedge fund industry, working with almost every type of security under the sun, and I’m looking for either a Jr Trader or Trading Assistant position. I understand this could be a difficult jump, but I’m hoping for at least an interview. I am a L2 candidate, located in NYC and am willing to relocate, to pretty much anywhere. I have US & EU citizenship. Relocation bonus is not necessary. I just began looking so I figured I’d throw it out to all you other AFers. Please let me know if you, or anyone you know is hiring. Thanks. P.S. I would appreciate it if there aren’t any snarky remarks posted.

“Insert snarky remark here”

Haha - Thx jcole. It’s my first day back on the forum since the exam… and on my first post all I hear are crickets.

Probably because the job market is really thin right now. You’ll probably get more bites in January or so.

Many major banks are laying off people, and Q4 for an industry that operates on yearly bonuses is not a good time to look for a job, as ohai says.

Money is not a factor. In fact, I’ll actually pay someone for an interview. And yes, I am serious.

But let’s say like ~$250 for an interview. I’ll say ~$1000 if I get the job. 1) Hunter green 2) Fiat 500, production years '57 - '75

I’m telling you it’s tough to ski in the summer and you’re telling me you’ll pay for directions to the slopes.

Second, I misunderstood what you and ohai said. My statement should have been interpreted such that I would forgo a year end bonus.

Right, that works, he is intent on skiing in the summer regardless of the level of difficulty and is willing to pay for directions in order to try his luck on the slopes. It makes sense, it just might not end up being a successful ski trip. my 2c.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what time of the year it is. He is more likely to get replies in January, but that does not mean that he should not look now.

I think you really have to look at the current trends in ski-based vacations and how they are regionally distributed. For instance, I know Whistler has had a tough time with snow in the past decade or so. However, it’s always snowing in Antartica. So you really have to examine the regional impacts that snow fall rates have had in their respective regions, before you even begin to get directions to the slopes. **NOTE** I do not think there are any “slopes” in antartica.

Off the street the bonus structure is different, his bonus would probably be based on his eligible comp for the year - there are jobs out there, go to indeed.com and search ‘trading assistant’.

i don’t know if it helps, but you mentionned Europe: trading isn’t exactly the flavour of the month here in Germany, that much I can tell you: - Hedge Funds: Future of the whole industry is kind of at stake due to uncertainty about legislation about hedge funds (so I read). - Banks: sitting on a pile of speculative assets they want to get rid of, recentring on more conventional and regional lending activities.

@jcole21 - Yea, coming in mid Q4 would likely make me ineligible for a bonus, which is what the misunderstanding between justin88 was. I’ve searched the web. There’s actually a bunch of recent trading assistant posts, mostly all of which I have applied to. But I figured if there was an actual person I could hand my resume to (and even pay $$), it would be more effective than blindly submitting it to a website. @Ass_Man - You could also opt to go sand skiing in Namibia.

Find someone who have just graduated with MFE from Columbia, Hass or like… and working as Trading Assistant.

Many MO > FO moves are done internally where the candidate proves over time that he/she would be suitable (via initiative, personality, visible go getter character) vs the millions of candidates applying “blindly” online. If I were you, I’d move shops (to possibly a smaller shop) if your current one does not have the hire from within culture.

You left out University of Phoenix.
