JV/Associates net income affecting Parent?

Going through the CFAI answers, there were statements saying:

  1. If using equity method, proportionate amount of NI in JV/Associates is included in the Parent’s NI

  2. JV/Associate Net income does not affect the parent’s interest coverage ratio (EBIT / Interest Exp)

Since EBIT is derived from Net Income, how does the JV/Associate NI NOT affect the parent’s interest coverage ratio?

Equity method is a one line input from income statement, and that’s NI… you do not bring over revenue, interest, cogs, etc.
