Know of Entry-Level Job Openings?

Hey, Unusual post here but I could sure use the help, even if this is a long shot: I am looking for an entry-level job, and wondering if anyone here could point me in a good direction. I just graduated from a top liberal arts school in May '09, took the L1 last week, and have been looking for the last 3+ months… it has been brutal. If you work in finance and your company happens to have something open at the entry level, you can contact me via here or facebook (http://www.facebook.com/people/Stephen-Donnelly/8403059). If it is entry-level and in finance, I want to hear about it. I live in Boston, but am willing to relocate to any major city. As for my background: I have a 3.6 GPA, was an Econ major, had an operations/trading internship at a buy side firm, was a leader of my school’s investment club, and like most of you, just took the L1. I would be extremely grateful for any leads/help. Thanks.

First off, this topic has been discussed in great detail… If you’re looking for a job as a financial ananlyst, here are some pointers: 1- Partner with your college career center 2- Recon! recon! recon! if you want to stay local, conduct a ton of research in your area. Drive around and look for office buildings, write down the names on the buildings and then look them up. Do searches by address to look for businesses in the building. 3- Most financial institutions that have analyst programs hire in cycles. They either have two or one cycle per year, and they recruit DIRECTLY from universities. Sometimes, they only recruit from top tier and nowhere else. 4- Even though they may tout on their website that they welcome resumes online, as opposed to from campus recruiting, do NOT apply on the site. That’s like throwing your resume into a black hole! If you missed your campus recruiting window, then your only option is work your way in via networking. 5- If networking is not working, the only way in will be to use the stepping stone approach. Caution: if you use the SS approach make sure that you do not appear to be a “job hopper.” If you want a career as a financial analyst/portfolio analyst/research analyst etc, your best bet is to get in quickly and while you’re young. Most companies, even if you’re qualified, will not accept you into their program if you’re 5+ years (or so) older than every one else in the program. Hope this helps. Tony

So while I do think its rare, it does happen. I also know that at my firm (a large, reputable asset management firm), HR does search the database of resumes received from the website when they have job openings. Granted, this was more likely to happen in years when jobs were harder to fill, but it is possible. So my advice is that you have nothing to lose by applying on the website. There’s a fair chance that its a black hole, but you should exhaust every avenue.

@JennyK, sup girl? @AF–Anyone in Atlanta interested in a job?

Nuppal, I’m in Kennesaw and while I have one class I’m currently taking to complete my bachelor’s in Finance, I’m pretty open on my schedule. Whats the job?

Business Analyst at AT&T, it’s not Finance related and the people here usually cannot stride with the people on the AF boards, intellectually.
