L1 questions:level of difficulty

Guys, I have posted this for L-2 candidates given the fact that they are the best to answer this question on L-1. Where do you find questions CLOSEST to what appear on the test day for Level-1? 1. CFA mocks 2. CFA sample exams 3. CFA end of chapter questions 4. Schweser end of chapter questions 5. Schweser Practice questions- Volumes 1 and 2 6. Schweser Q-Bank 7. None of these! If you answer 1 or 2 (which I strongly feel), also advise how different the other options are vis-a-vis the real test-too easy, too difficult, too calculation-induced etc. I do understand all the above will be a good source for practice purposes, but if I want to have a look at the questions which most closely resemble the real ones appearing on the test day, what will you vote for? Thanks,

Note: CLOSEST is the operative word here 1. CFA mocks 2. CFA sample exams 3. CFA end of chapter questions (multiple choice) In my experience, these questions are going to focus more on understanding the concepts – whereas (at least for me on level 1) Schweser questions tend to be more calculation intense, and don’t zero in on the concepts quite as much. Schweser questions focus on the letter of the concepts, While CFA questions focus on the spirit of the concepts. Make sense? It also helps to do the mid-chapter questions in the blue boxes, but as far as which questions are most likely to resemble what you’ll see on the exam, those are the CFA questions without question.

When I did L1 the CFAI texts didn’t exist (Dec 2006), but here goes on the rest: The night before the exam i had a look at the Stalla exam papers and completely sh*tted myself. I was sitting in the hotel at about 9pm stressing that I was no way going to pass and I was SO close to going home again and skipping the exam. As it happens the exam was nothing like the Stalla qns and was much more like the Schweser practice exam papers that I had from a few years back. I got >70% on everything but ethics and alt invesments.

I wish someone had told me this before I took the exam. While the CFA Mocks resemble the exam in form, they don’t in difficulty. In my opinion they are more difficult than the actual exam. If you are scoring over a 75% consistently in the QBank then you should pass. I only got 1 70+ on the Schweser practice and I passed with > 70% in nearly every topic. Just do as many QBanks as possible.

IMO, 1. CFA mocks (VERY) 2. CFA sample exams(Somewhat) 3. CFA end of chapter questions (Decent Practice) But here’s the deal, when you take the mocks make sure to write down your answers on a sheet of paper. It adds a little bit of time, but when you get the explanations at the end it typically gave some sort of explanation for each answer choice. This way you can track yourself and look up what you didn’t know. My first mock I didn’t do this and it was a total kick in the nuts when I realized I couldn’t really check MY answers properly.

Thanks very much guys- highly appreciated. Good luck!
