L2 2012 retakers

How many of you will be attempting L2 again? My second attempt. Already started studying. Don’t give up guys. Let us start again. Don’t think of it as a pain to go through. Think of it as a re-learning(CFA books are good reads, if it were not for the sake of exams) and some better strategizing next time. Who all are with me?

Give yourself a couple of months off and then get back on the horse. I doubt that you will even remember what you are studying now six months down the road. I failed Band 8 in 2010. I started studying again in March 2011. I was able to recall some of the equity and derivative material but that was about it.

I dont think so, it is possible to remember. Prashant Start early, if you practice you will remember. if you read only i doubt u will remember. Then revise it, i doubt how u will not recollect then? Also advise is to study light (1-2 hrs. a day) and 3-4 hrs. on weekend. Later on u can increase.

Yep, I’ll be retaking again in 2012. It’ll be my 3rd go at level 2. Failure was an eye opener the first fail, nowhere near passing. Angry at myself for not trying hard enough. Dogged hard work over being efficient was the eye opener for the second fail, but only narrowly failed. Not happy at failing the exam, but very happy that I’ve learned a valuable life lesson right there. The lessons learned are that without working at something it’s likely you’ll fail, and that hard work on it’s own is useless unless you are smart in your methods.

Good luck gents. Do what works for you - if I started studying now I think it’d hinder more than help, buy everybody is different.

I’m already half way through SS 14 in fixed income and have made 50 notecards. No pain, no gain. We just have to face facts, some people are going to have to work a lot harder than others to pass. Also whattup EoghanLyons, I remember you from the CAIA forums. Let’s kill this CFA L II beast.

Let’s kill this CFA L II beast. I hope you’re well  Yes well at least you are finished the CAIA’s…I still have level 2 to do again haha. No doubt about it, 2012 will see victory over level 2 for both of us.

Miss Cleo, irrespective of what people say about your melodramatic nature, I have respect for you. You are fiery! Keep giving the updates of your progress to inspire us. One more try for me as well. Vgmalu…thanks for the advice …burnout is a mistake I have already made very early in life…now I am scared of not trying hard enough.

MissCleo…already started you look so desparate…I think @EoghanLyons has given a very good message…last para Chukrox8…u rock man…i got band 10 and will probably hit the books in Dec.

2012 will be my second attempt. I failed band 7 - I had to abandon studying in April due to working insane hours because of new system implementation. My confidence is high that I can do it as long as there is nothing crazy going on in work or life during crunch time.

Yeah, I failed band 9 this time and it was my 2nd time taking the exam although the 1st time I literally did nothing. I´m quite dissappointed because it´s yet another year of this material which is quite daunting. I did myself the favour of booking a flight to South America for a few months after the exam so I´m still here on holiday. When I return home I should hopefully have a new perspective on things and be able to hit the books again but still, I think November is probably ideal. Starting too early has its downside in my opinion.

Failed band 3. Just ordered my CFA books yesterday. Confident I can pass with more time at my hands this time around (I passed Level 1 in Dec 2010, failed Level 2 just now). Hopefully, won’t get burnt out and will just have to put in 1-2 hours a day through June to get there. I think I’ll take August off and use the time to get organized and all my prep stuff ordered. Good luck to all of you!

anybody near chandigarh for level 2 retake… i have material to share too… and i want a self study partner…

I know a bit about the science of memory from my study of languages. In general, studying and restudying material over a long time span is easier to remember and recall than studying and restudying over a shorter time span. You’ll do better if you start earlier, of course. The key though is that you regularly review. I think it would be a sound plan to, say, go through the quant section, then the economics section, then go back and review the quant section, and continually review older material on a rolling basis like this. Having a set of flashcards that you go over regularly is helpful as well. By that, you won’t forget what you read 6 months later, and you can avoid having to cram in the last 6-3 months. Studying and memorizing something in the short term, and then a week later, and then going over it again a month or two later, and then another month or two later; does a good job of imprinting it in your mind.
