L2 Élan Guides

Hey, I used these guys for L1 and was impressed. What do people think about using them for L2? The free quant material looked good, and they are cheap… Obviously a risk being guinea pigs though

i am curious too, i am sooooo pissed at schweser i was going to stalla until i heard about the merger

I, also, would apreciate insight on this. A big deciding factor for me is the quality of the video lectures. I’d have a hard time watching/listening to that big goober on the Schweser video samples for 60 hours. Has anyone used both Stalla and Elan?

Kungfupanda, ignore AMCC, its just how the world is, just learn how to ignore. As far as Elan goes, i check our their corp-finace book and it’s simply amazing, i spoke to them and i believe they will do as good of a job as they did for their L1 products. I used them for L1 and passed. I tried schweser videos and books and hated them, i would rather use CFAI books. This is my take on Elan, it could be a psychological thing but after studying their corp finance books and taking the EOC’s i was much comfortable answering the questions and they were covering the material pretty well. Can’t wait for their videos and i have decided to use them for L2, i am willing to take that risk. hope this helps

I went to their website, and wasn’t necessarily impressed with what I saw. Then again, it’s really the materials that speak for themselves. I think when it comes to Level II, a good review should have 1.) Study Notes that explain the material in a bit more intuitive way than the CFAI books, 2.) Interesting and grabbing lectures that focus on the key material and work through difficult concepts, and finally 3.) Plenty of practice questions/exams that realistically simulate (within reason) the experience you get during the exam. Honestly, I think #2 and #3 are more important since I think the CFAI books have everything one needs. Form looking at the sample lectures on youtube, I’d say it’s still a bit of amateur hour in the presentation and personality/interest factor of the lecturer. However, I will say the lecture notes (based on the sample Lvl II Quant book) are very nice and remind me a lot of Stalla lecture notes in terms of format. Finally, when it comes to practice questions/exams, I really don’t know and would leave it to someone else to review those. Ranking (based solely on sample material from Elan): Notes: Elan > Schweser (however, small amount of difference) Videos: Tie (Stalla beat them both) Practice Questions/Exams: Unknown. Scheweser has a nice Qbank with cool customization tools, but I feel the question format is lacking in terms of accuracy in the actual exam (as are most Kaplan products I have used).

I used Elan for level I and felt very confident going into the exam. I purchased Schweser for level II since I was apprehensive about Elan’s first attempt at the notes. After reading Schweser for quant and econ, I don’t think I’ll be using them anymore. I felt very under prepared when attempting the CFAI end-of-chapter questions. I don’t know if this is because I’m not used to the Schweser format or if I’m just not getting it. I have since purchased econ and corporate finance from Elan and will use them as a complement to the CFAI text. Hopefully they do a better job than Schweser for me. I realize that it’s different for everyone and thousands have passed using Schweser, just not sure if I’ll be one of them. Good luck to everyone!

any other people have feedback on Elan, particularly re-takers? I am using them, they seem good, just a bit scared that i don’y have enough knowledge of L2 standards etc to judge the quality of the guides

I used them & EOC for Level 1 . Found the eleventh hour guide & mock exams very good . Was able to easily give the exams without much doubts. Any ideas as to how it is for level 2 ? i see that they are still in process of publishing all topics. It will be good if people who have already bought it, can give an idea

I’m thinking of purchasing Elan Guides as well. However so far I see only the study notes available, no lecture videos. Their website mentions that some videos should already be available, was anyone able to purchase them so far?

What is eleventh hour guide like? Is it like a condensed summary notes? I’m interested in purchasing some of the Elen guides as well (since they are available by parts) but seems like they don’t have practice questions for level 2… ???

@Tulips: They will release a few videos starting next month. @seerajene: The 11th hour guide is a review book, like the secret sauce. And yes, they don’t have any practice questions for Level II yet.

I’ve used Elan guides for Level 1 and they are extremely good, lectures were bit overstretched but worth it as they go into concepts, i’ve been waiting for them to release there lecture video’s for L2 which are due to release in feb. all i can say study from elan and do all eoc questions from cfa books, you will be fine for the exams. i bought schweser premium package for level 1 too but so frustrated with the lecture vidoes so decided to move to elan straightaway. good luck with the study, i will be starting from tomorrow, though bit scared now.

I really wish they had practice questions for LII though. People don’t seem to rate the Qbank very highly when it comes to Level II so there’s a huge vacuum in this space. Are there enough EOC in terms of quantity?

Why doesn’t Elan put names of the instructors etc. on their website. I get very leery of sellers who are ‘sneaky’ - it is not just my money that I am gambling on with their product.

Using Elan Guide right now, I like it thus far (minus some of the newer notes look like they’re still in draft format). Used Stella last year and failed, but that was my own doing. I especially like Elan examples - comprehensive and easy to follow. YMMV.
