L2 Workshops: Schweser vs. John Harris

Debating between the Schweser Workshop and the John Harris accounting focused workshop for L2, please help me decide. HARRIS ACCOUNTING http://www.accountingworkshops.com/levelii.htm SCHWESER 3 DAY http://www.schweser.com/downloads/syllabi/3_day_seminar_syllabus_l2.pdf Please consider: 1. $ is not a factor as I am reimbursed, but can only pick one 2. Accounting is not particularly a weak spot, but it is a large portion of the exam. (disclaimer: I was >70% on all parts of L1) 3. The Schweser one would be late in my study time making for a good total review where the harris would be right in the middle of my plan (not a bad thing?) Thanks for the help…

I haven’t personally taken any of these classes but a buddy of mine who took the Schweser class said it was helpful but yet intense so gotta know you stuffs before going in.

Cool, thank Ill make sure to have my stuffs in order. Anyone taken these?

Everyone says the John Harris class on accounting is excellent, but if accounting is not your weak area, then why not do Schwesser. It’s not as if you can pass the exam on the basis of accounting alone, and you might want help in other areas if your accounting is pretty strong.

I didn’t take a class for either of the first two levels, but if you’re strong in FSA doesn’t that eliminate the FSA class?

John Harris, hands down. For L2, you cannot beat his 2-day prep. class. I scored more than 70% w/o breaking a sweat.

hmmm… anybody used Schweser’s?

Don’t take only my word. Do a search for John Harris in AF. You will hear nothing but praise for his L2 classes. I was able to contact him over the phone or email after the class, when few questions did come up. He was always helpful, and made sure that I understood the concepts.

I agree. I used both Harris and Schweser. The two are not even in the same league. Schweser will teach you only what you already know. They cover everything in a very small amount of time so if you don’t already know it you can’t learn it. If you already know it then why pay to take the class? With Harris, you get to listen to a brilliant teacher, and you are guaranteed (assuming you don’t sleep through it or something) a great score on the largest and most difficult section of the exam. Level 2 accounting is MUCH harder than Level 1 account.

I just think it bears repeating so I’m reiterating my point again: Unless you are 100% top notch at level 2 accounting, so much so that any more accounting would be a complete waste of time, and you have the section completely on lock-down, John Harris’ class is roughly 100X the value of the Schweser weekend review. It says something when a class applauds a teacher after a 16 hour marathon study class covering a mindless subject like accounting.

Agree totally. I had JH for Level 1 and he makes it interesting, relevant and easy to learn. Wish I could go to the same classes for Level 2.

Haven’t taken the Schweser class, so I have no basis for comparison. However, I highly highly highly recommend John Harris Accounting Workshop. I can honestly say it was the best decision I made to pass Level 2 for me. He makes concepts crystal clear. Sign up for it, no doubt.

THANKS EVERYBODY… I’ll be signing up for the San Francisco class.

I was blessed in dallas. He taught all the acct’g classes in the schweser class here so there was no need to chose just one. Awesome- I had 0 acct’g in school/background and got over 70 in level 1 and 2.

I did the 5 day Dallas Schweser for level 1, 2 and soon to be 3. Harris teaches at level 1 and 2. Do that.

Did everyone who took the John Harris class have work pay for it, or did they pay for it themselves? For people who payed for it themselves, would you still do it again?

Harris is worth the $$$ if you want to pass FSA for level 1 or 2 it is worth it. He is the best in the business!

Think about a whole year of studying you would not have to do by doing it right the first time. Cannot beat that.

I paid for it on my own and would gladly pay for it again. Easily worth the $500 (+hotel cost since I did not live close) to not worry about FSA going into the test.
