How much did you guys pay?
Back in the day it was EUR1500 (can’t remember if that was per eye which affects it quite a bit…) I did it in Brussels and had to wear transparent plastic saucers for a few days. I did it when I was young and reckless. Went to a houseparty that night with my plastic saucers on! What a nutter. -11.5 goddang you win. It used to be the case that you couldn’t do it at those sorts of levels. Nowadays it is considered safe enough that they offered it to members of the British Armed Forces for free. I dunno if they still give you a video of it (showing my age there). Quite weird seeing your eye being peeled back…
wow. i used to date a girl that was -8, but -11.5 is the worst i’ve ever heard of. everyone i know that has had it done says that it was the best thing they’ve ever done. because of that, i plan on getting it done in the next year or so
i paid something like 3 or 4k (cant remember exactly) it was a premium price, but i really liked/trusted my doctor. They do a thorough analysis before even thinking about the surgery and make sure you are a good candidate. Gained respect for him because before i did it he turned me dad away, simply because he felt my dad wasn’t a good candidate for the surgery. Lots of the doctors out there now just zap everybody to make a buck, consequences be damned. If your doctor doesn’t make you go 2 weeks without contacts before examining you for LASIK, its time to find a new doctor
-11.5 sucks, but luckily at least it stabilized 5 years ago. i really hope i can get to 20/20 with the surgery.
So this is funny, I can’t get Lasik since I’m too near-sighted. Therefore, I’m going to have to get implantable contacts, that allow correction for people as bad as -20.0.
Sorry to hear that sub, are you sure you want to go with implantable contacts (I don’t know anything about it, just sounds iffy)
I will get the implantable contacts eventually. From what I hear they are good since you don’t have lasers that reshape your cornea via laser zapping and tissue destruction. Rather, a tiny incision is created, the contacts are inserted all rolled up, and unfold in the area behind the clear part of the front of your eye and in front of the colored iris. Bummer that it couldn’t be a quick eye zap next month, but a more involved procedure. Also implantable contacts will be about 2x as expensive, something like $8,000 total instead of $4,000 for the laser eye surgery.
Yeah, but once you have them done, it will be a sunk cost and you can go swimming / play sports / fall out of bars without worrying about losing your glasses ever again…
Def, that’s why I’m getting them despite the cost and my fear of getting my eye poked with a sharp object.
