what’s the point of playing these guessing games
I never can undersand why people always talk about what the DOW does everyday. Doesn’t it make more sense to quote the S&P. I don’t work in the industry yet, so maybe there is a good reason. But the DOW is just 30 companies. The S&P is 500. It’s not rocket science to determine that the S&P is a better representative of the entire market than the DOW. Does anyone know why the DOW is quoted so often?

Pros use S&P as a broader mkt indicator for sure. Not to mention S&P is mkt cap weighted while DIJA is price weighted (a not very scientific weighting scheme)… But DJIA is used in a much broader media context as it’s the one retail investors or bystanders are more familiar with…
