Level III Study Order Advice/Suggestions

Hi everyone!

I’m relatively new to the forum and it’s my first time posting after reading quite a bit here for the last couple of weeks. Lots of information, and many thanks to everyone for contributing.

I was wondering if anyone can suggest study order for Level III and why (if possible/applicable). Thanks a lot in advance!

Best,

Since you’re kind of left out here, I can tell you what I did (passed first time). As far as study order goes, I pretty much read the books from 1-6 in order, with the only exception is I skipped Ethics in the first readthrough. I think all subjects tend to stand on their own, so you can study in any order you wish.

Here’s what I did; take from it what you will:

August (okay, maybe September) to February: Read through the material (CFAI books) and did end of chapter questions and all ensured I understood all blue boxes.

February to April: Took Wiley’s questions, videos (actually, watch this video as soon as you can), and Kaplan’s Q bank; adjusted learning on the fly to address subjects I didn’t know well.

April & May: Did as many AM tests as I could: Kaplan’s workshop questions, Wiley’s questions, CFAI questions, and old exams. Reviewed ethics at this point. Ensured I understood everything in Kaplan’s Secret Sauce.

I have a degree in finance so counting/projecting cash flows for institutional investors and individuals was already pretty well covered in my education. It’s not hard (it’s essentially DCF), but you should know institutional and individual investors cold.

Pay particular attention to guideline answers from Kaplan, Wiley, and CFAI. It’s not enough to say, “the couple is old, so their risk tolerance is low,” for max points. You must address the question from the point of the portfolio. So you’ll (probably) get more points by saying, “the couple is old, so the portfolio will have a shorter time in the capital markets and have less time to recover from market losses, so the risk tolerance is low.”

Thank you so much!
