Listening Elan Videos and practicing EOC better ?

I am considering of Buying Elan Videos. I have just heard their free videos for first 2 chapters of quant and solved the questions from EOC with looking and understanding them. I intend to redo them and practice more.

I have just appeared for CFA level 1 in december 2012. I studied through the CFA curriculum books in CFA level 1.

Now, I am thinking to not use curriculum books for Level 2 except for EOC and examples. Instead use the time saved to practice questions and finish early may be 1 month before if all goes well. And practice mock exams.

Is this strategy is safe ? Given Elan videos cover enough material and going over and over again on them to understand them.

I think you’re in the best position to answer your own question. Did they strategy work for the chapters they offer for free? How did you do on the EOCs?

I just glanced EOCs and understood them. Now, I want to spent time more on understanding EOC and then practicing them.

I assume that the exam would test basic understanding for level 2 curriculum. Elan videos cover comprehensively, basic understanding. I am just experimenting, some people had success through it too.

Scenario1: By the time I complete reading the entire curriculum. The level of retention if less after reading the entire curriculum then risk is high. Then in such scenario, I won’t have enough time to practice EOCs. As reading the entire curriculum consumes lot of time. After reading an entire reading mind is lethargic and does not stay as active on EOCs as active it was while reading the assigned reading. So no real good understanding. I am jumping on second reading. This is not safe in the long run as you complete your all assigned reading. So, when u finish reading the entire curriculum. You are back to A from Z. So, at the end, I have re jump back on EOCs and no time for mock and no time to practice EOC better. So, I feel it is not as safe strategy to read the entire curriculum. As this, I experienced in level 1 and I failed. If I have one full year, I read curriculum and listen videos. But not if I have 4 months. Since, From May 1, mock exams shud start. …

Scenario2: Because, u save lot of time spent on curriculum reading. U can use that saved time into multiple times solving EOC and listening videos. So you get firm grip of Basic knowlege. I don’t think exam would be very tough it would be easy only the questions would be big in length of paragraph but would ask for basic knowledge. Scenario appears better for me. Since, at level 1 i experienced this problem.

Thanks for reply.

Reading the entire curriculum and understanding it and retaining all knowledge is not possible. I have tried

Scenario1: By the time I complete reading the entire curriculum from CFA Institute books. So no real good understanding of that reading. I have to jumpon second reading, again same cycle happens, I jump on 3rd reading and I when finish reading curriculum I realise I do not really know what i read for such a long time not even EOCs. This is not safe in the long run as you complete your all assigned reading. So, when u finish reading the entire curriculum. You are back to A from Z. Scenario2 listen elan videos and do eoc and mocks: Because, u save lot of time spent on curriculum reading. U can use that saved time into multiple times solving EOC and listening videos.
