Hi everyone, I relocated to London almost two years ago and have been struggling to find a job in Equity research ever since. I attribute this largely to not having any relevant UK work experience and having a substantial gap in my CV preparing to move to the UK and trying to find my feet here. I am looking to network with other Londoners working in banks, asset management or smaller research houses. At this point, I am looking to just get my foot in the door at an organisation where I could work my way into an equity research/analysis position. Anyone in London working in finance and willing to offer some advice/suggestions and point me in the right direction? Thanks!
I do not understand your motivation / profile. You have moved to UK to what? Search for a job?
Or have you moved with your partner? What does it mean - preparing to move to the UK? You can search for a job in UK from abroad, I see no point in all the hassle just to find a job. Sorry, I am just curious.
Hi Margin Call,
I moved to the UK after getting married as my husband had already been based here and was well established. I started the job search before coming over and most recruiters advised that it it would be easier once I arrived in the UK and was available for face to face interviews.
I have been looking ever since, been to a couple interviews which didn’t pan out but generally finding it difficult and have been told it is due to a lack of UK experience.
I am currently working as a financial analyst but still looking to move to something more investment orientated - ideally equity research.
Hi Freakonomist
I guessed right). UK is indeed a very tough market to break into. I heard about this availability factor indeed but can not really confirm that.
But you can do the degree, maybe this helps.
Good luck to you!
Hi Freakonomist,
I plan to relocate back to uk next year. Is finding a decent job that bad?
Now, you have got a job and once you pass more levels of the exam, I am sure you would get what you want.
