Madoff really is insane

http://money.cnn.com/2009/06/23/news/economy/madoff_sentence/?postversion=2009062311 NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) – The lawyer for Bernard Madoff, the confessed Ponzi scammer who faces a maximum of 150 years in prison, requested a 12-year sentence from the judge set to mete out his sentence on Monday. Madoff defense attorney Ira Lee Sorkin made the request in a letter to Judge Denny Chin of U.S. District Court in Manhattan. Sorkin focused on the age of his septuagenarian client, as well as his “non-violent nature” and his “voluntary surrender” to authorities. “Mr. Madoff is currently 71 years old and has an approximate life expectancy of 13 years,” wrote Sorkin, whose letter was released on Tuesday. “A prison term of 12 years - just short of an effective life sentence - will sufficiently address the goals of deterrence, protecting the public and promoting respect for the law.” I don’t think so Bernie.

They should tell him "sure, we’ll let you go after 12 years. 12 years later…“sorry, we gave it to someone else”.

oooooo, nice Frank

“Duane Chapman, aka Dog the Bounty Hunter, a former gang member with 18 prior convictions for armed robbery, was sentenced in Pampa, Texas to a five year prison term in 1977 after being convicted of the first degree murder of Jerry Oliver. He was released on parole after serving 18 months in Huntsville Prison in Huntsville Texas. Two of his co-defendants received probation and a third, their alleged shooter, received ten years in prison.”

So Ira requested a 12 year sentence. I bet the judge will simply send him a memo saying, “Did you hear what I sentenced Madoff the first time? Here are the court transcripts for you to review.” Ira has b@lls, I almost like him, but I don’t.

Ira is charging the remnants of Madoff’s fund $1500/hour to write that crap.

I’m actually very surprised that Madoff is still alive. There are a lot of people that would want to see him dead. I remember hearing that he took 250MM+ from the wrong crowd just weeks before he came clean. It wouldn’t take much money to give to a spouse or family of an inmate incarcerated for life to kill the guy. For that reason, I’d imagine Madoff doesn’t mix with the rest of the prison population.
