So Mark Cuban says that the NFL is making a big mistake by expanding to Thursdays and weekdays. Troy Aikman said the same thing a couple of years ago on the Dan Patrick show, saying that the oversaturation of the market will be the downfall of the NFL.
Of course, Jerry Jones and Roger Goodell disagree with them.
I have to say that I’m not a huge fan of the Thursday night games. They were cool when they were just at the end of the season, but having a game every Thursday is a bit much early in the season when hockey and baseball are still on.
I’m not a huge fan of the Monday Night games, either. It always seems like those two nights compete for the worst game of the week.
And I like the Thanksgiving Day games. Other than those three, I wish the NFL would do away with Thursday Night. And expanding to another night would probably be a bad deal, because it’s either going to be Friday (which will interfere with HS football) or Saturday (which will interfere with college). You’ll have a lot of pissed off people if they have to pick between them.
I’m not a big NFL fan, but I do enjoy the occassional Thursday or Monday night game. It’s easier for me to catch a weeknight game than on a weekend when I’m normally out doing stuff.
I’m not a huge fan of the weekday games because it’s actually annoying to get to them and be up late on a school night. The only good thing that comes from it is when your team is finished on Thursday you have the whole weekend to just enjoy football with no loyalty to the games for the rest of the week.
Cuban just doesn’t like the competition. He knows the NFL is a far superior product to the NBA. I think the NFL has it perfect now, with one game each on Thurs and Mon, and of course games all day long on Sunday. If there is actually thought of having games on a fourth day of the week, that might be a bit much.
The thing that pi$$es me off the most about football on Thursdays is having to update my fantasy and survivor pools on Wednesday night instead of waiting till Sunday morning.
