http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlj3fMUx73c&feature=related I really like this interview, but he cold disses at the end!
third ave all the way babay!
Yeah - Marty is sort of right in that methods evolve… Big fan of Third Ave as well
ValueAddict, hear anything??? I’m rooting for you man!
Seth blinks funny
he literally blinks more than once a second
he blinks because he’s been through security analysis 4 times and his head hurts from all the information
If that’s the case, Buffett has stronger control of his face muscle.
Thanks. still waiting…agonizing I had an NYU interview last week - I hated the school which put me in a worse mood. Don’t get me wrong the school has an excellent reputation. Just not my kind of people. The adcom rep. still didn’t even know what I wanted to do after I explained it to her in my essays / in person.
That’s horrible. On the bright side, you are at least finding this information now rather than later. Did you consider outside of NYC?
I did apply outside of NYC, however, I am not seriously considering those schools. I applied to four in total. One safety (outside of top 20), Cornell, NYU, CBS. Interview invite for all but Cornell thus far. I’ll find out how smart / stupid that was soon hopefully.
valueaddict, what you doing these days anyways? i too like “value” investing.
I like to study these days. I also happen to be busy with many other activities, including: “G-Y-M”, being a wine connoisseur in the making, investing my personal portfolio, spending time with my friends and family, and finally collecting a salary from the US Gov’t of $405 dollars a week. But Obama just gave me an incremental raise of $25/week, so I am pretty stoked on my career progress. I worked in HFs up until December of this year.
i’m looking to join with a value manager, any good tips on that?
If I had any extra insight I would use them myself (and then share). Not about to offer any generic advice like “go network” bc that is useless. What I do know is that its a tight-knit community. Certain funds target specific schools in recruiting. For example if you want to work for Baupost, attend HBS, since Klarman has a warm fuzzy spot for his alumni. Greenlight is partial to Wharton and Tuck grads. I am sure a large degree of hiring is done on a friend of a friends basis. Funny this thread is dedicated to Marty Whitman - a fellow colleague of mine interned in btw his 1st and 2nd year at CBS, and he said it was impossible to get hired by Third Ave. even with an internship. So basically what I am saying is snake eyes.
I read that Kathleen Crawford was an CBS MBA grad, but I suspect that it was a few years ago when she was hired by Third Ave. If it really gets to be that tough, I say we start our own fund. We can hit up some Sheikhs in Abu Dhabi for cash requirements.
You know any?
i know the conventional way is to get an MBA and then try to get into an internship. That really doesn’t sound right to me. right now, i’m thinking i just build my skills and hopefully force them into an interview where i can show them what i know. not looking for anything like third avenue or baupost.
