I’m a CFA level 3 candidate and i have already registered to cga level 3 this june 2010 like many of you have done , and we had to join a local society in order to complete the registration ? and now i’m recieveibg an email from cfa that that it is required to pay the membership fees , so my question is can i delay this payment till after passing the level 3 and become a charter or shall i pay it now ? any advice from exitent candidates or cfa charters
i am not sure why you joined before passing the test. if they tell you to pay you pay.
it was not a choice i had to to do a membership + join a local cfa society in order to continue my registration . anyone is facing the same issue level 3 candidates ?
yeah its not mandatory, you can send a request to cfa institute to cancel your membership.
danhoop, are u sure about it ? did it happen to you also ?
It isn’t mandatory, but you may want to join now for a few reasons. First, if you have the proper work experience you can become a member now and get your charter nice and quick if you pass since you will avoid the massive influx of new member apps they get after results are released. Also, you get access to the job boards and the events at the local society, which is a great networking opportunity. It will cost you a few hundred, but it’s nice to have it out of the way and it isn’t entirely without benefits.
Steve, Candidacy in the CFA Program and membership with the CFA Institute are two different things. Candidates usually forget that you need the two to get the Charter. I recommend you get the membership, activate, pay the fees, and enjoy the benefits, whether affiliate or regular member. Cool stuff man, after passing the exams the process for upgrading will much easier. Cheers
I’m positive. I had to cancel my membership to change my work experience description. I ended up paying b/c I had enough experience and became a member this fall. I would also recommend joining.
On a similar note: I passed level III last June, and I had my work experience approved at the end of '09. Now I just need to pay the dues and I’ll be set. Can I delay paying the dues until June/July (whenever the next ‘year’ starts for them)? I just started a new job so having ‘CFA’ after my name and having access to the job board isn’t as important to me. Essentially, I’ll get very little bang for my $400 and I’d rather save the cash. I just don’t want to go pay in June and find out that my approval had expired.
Why don’t you call the institute and ask them.
I had the same problem. I only wanted to sign up for the exam but I had to apply for membership. I just called CFA to cancel it. I don’t need it now since I have less than 20 mo of full-time work experience and it will be a while to get my 48.
guys i ahve contacted the CFA and they told that i don’t have to cancel it , i can just pay it later it is not mandatory to pay now , and they have made that process in order to make the process quicker so i’ve been told that i can pay the membership once i finish the exam or i pass it is not an issue , and also u can pay now and u will become a member either afffiliate or regular depends on ur experience .
