Men's Warehouse

You should definitely consider what you are buying the suit for. In SF, everyone is so fashion forward that if you buy practically any english cut suit you are already behind the 8 ball in the appearance department. I wear strictly Joseph Abboud and Hugo Boss. They are always on the edge of new fashions. And let the salesperson know what you are buying it for, they can tell you what people in your industry buy. Flat front pants, no vent or single vent back if you can. for 200, just go to Overstock.com, you can find an Abboud there.

Probably because they are older and out of style. Granted, that is the conventional look, but it also hides a fat @ss.

big swinging d*&^%s not big swinging a$$e$.

I guess they would need pleated not flat front then too.

I don’t have strong feelings between center vents v. side vents, but ventless suits are disgusting. Correct me if I’m wrong, but aren’t all Hugo Boss / Joseph Abboud suits fused? I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that, but if Hugo Boss suits are at a comparable price point to half canvassed suits why not go that route? While I’m not a fan of pleats and all JAB suits (not suit separates) have pleats I would much rather have a JAB half-canvassed signature gold for $400 than a fused Hugo Boss for the same $400.

I had a tux rental (from Mens Wearhouse Tux!!) that looked pretty smooth from the front due to slimness but felt awkward as hell to drunkenly dance in. I don’t get the canvassing thing. Supposedly it’s better but I can’t tell the diff. I’d look for a number of other things before this.

You lost me on the materials part. I am more into the look, obviously materialistic. But JAB have flat front, i have several suits with flat front. Maybe its just the American Soft style i think. But Boss is just so sharp, one of my friends who is a trial lawyer is now only buying Boss suits for when he is in trial.

re stylenet…ok do people really spend 6k on a pair of shoes…it sounds like something i would have considered but with maturity i’ve came to my senses…or maybe i’m just far too poor

If I could afford $6,000 shoes, I’d gladly buy them. Due to circumstances (25 y/o LIII candidate w/ a public university finance degree) my budget is between $250 and $400 which I’ve heard “Are you SERIOUS?” in response to. Probably have 7 pairs or so in that range and they are beautiful, comfortable, and last forever so long as taken care of. BizBanker, I’m not too privy on San Fran. style, but that’s not the norm. in popular culture. Nobody with any sense of style will wear an unvented suit and single vent is currently less leading edge than double vent. Sorry. I know some people just don’t agree, but IMO you’re throwing your money away on any suit under $500 (I said $500 to be reasonable and partly because it’s a stretch for me to afford a $1,000 suit, but $1,000 is really my number, I just need to come to grips with my present life status). I will never (EVER) buy a suit from 1.) Men’s Warehouse or 2.) Jos. A. Bank. Oh yes, and please, get it tailored. It’s worth whatever it costs. And not at MW or JAB, at a tailor. Preferably some little Italian guy north of 55 years old who needs to stand on a stool to service you. He’ll know what’s up.

I guess I just have different priorities… Just because you can afford something doesn’t mean you should buy it. I remember a individual I knew he was from a very weathly family and was told the price of a jacket and he looked at the sales person and said “I 'm rich but I’m not stupid…”

If you are in NYC area, check out SYMS…like 1/2 price for some suits…but hit or miss…

So, my boss (whose underlings have made more than $1b this year), wears a faded RL polo shirt and sneakers to work…

No offense dude, but you seem to have some seriously misguided perceptions of what’s reasonable for your income and experience level. I’m probably much higher on the career ladder than you but I don’t spend anywhere near what you claim to be dropping on shoes, suits, and tailoring. If I do get something expensive I’ll get it at a discount (see my outlet mall thread). I don’t usually agree with racists, but mo34 was right on his other thread about people systematically overleveraging themselves beyond what’s realistic.

I have four pairs of lace up Allen Edmonds which cost lest than $1500 combined and I’d prefer that to a (or four) pair(s) of $6,000 shoes regardless of income level. > > BizBanker, I’m not too privy on San Fran. style, > but that’s not the norm. in popular culture. > Nobody with any sense of style will wear an > unvented suit and single vent is currently less > leading edge than double vent. Sorry. Agree with this with the exception of DB suits. > I know some people just don’t agree, but IMO > you’re throwing your money away on any suit under > $500 (I said $500 to be reasonable and partly > because it’s a stretch for me to afford a $1,000 > suit, but $1,000 is really my number, I just need > to come to grips with my present life status). While I personally don’t own any MW or JAB suits I have a fairly stylish friend that swears by JAB and where else can you get a half canvassed suit for $400? > > Oh yes, and please, get it tailored. He’ll know what’s up. ??? My tailor Natalie is a 30 something Russian chick and she does a great job at a reasonable price.
