Looking to pick up a new two piece suit for under $2 hundo. Any suggestions?
For under $200, I’d go with Jos A Bank. You can usually find $199 suits at JAB both in store and online.
Go for it!
Men’s Warehouse will give you a 10% discount if you have a card that says pretty much anything on it… business card, drivers license, student id, work id, Chili’s Gift Certificate. Seriously, just whip any rectangular piece of plastic out before you show them your credit card and you’ll get 10% off.
I’m not sure where you live, but if there is a Nordstrom Rack I would start there. Syms may be worth checking out as well or maybe an outlet mall. *EDIT* If you know your measurements you should check out the ‘Buying and Selling’ forum at styleforum.net.
If you are choosing between JAB and MW go to JAB. For whatever reason, the MW suits have a very baggy fit. Although the service at MW is superior, not by much, the airheads at JAB can usually get you out the door with a reasonably fitting suit.
For $200, I would recommend getting a Macy’s suit and getting it fit at an outside tailor.
I wasn’t even thinking about alterations. Purchasing a suit AND having it altered for $200 seems nearly impossible. Assuming the pant waist is correct and the jacket doesn’t need to be taken in, hemming the pants will cost around $20 and the sleeve alteration will cost around $30. If the local sales tax is around 8% then: Alterations: (30+20) * 1.08 = 54 200 - 54 = 146 / 1.08 = 135 for the actual suit Thrift store?
MW and Jos. both do the alterations at no charge if you buy from them.
If you were willing to up the ante to $300 you’d get a world of difference and a suit that fits.
At minimum, your suit should cost what gold is at.
I’d say save up some $$$ and buy a decent suit.
I know there are a lot of metro/homo/fashionistas here on AF who think you can’t get a decent suit for under $1200 but MW really offers great prices on relatively high quality stuff The service/fitting is very professional
Just go to Walmart and try on their 50 dollar suits til you find one that fits
If you are looking for a suit of the leisure variety, just check out your local thrift store. You should be able to pick up a nice lime green number for about $50. Plus, it doubles as a halloween costume.
I got my ninth grade homecoming suit at Men’s Warehouse. After I didn’t get laid that night I promptly gave it to a homeless man who declined to accept it citing it would make him look “cheap.” Loan rates are attractive right now. Take one out if you have to and buy a real suit. Nothing good comes from owning a $200 suit.

I think I got a suit from Brooks Brothers for $500 less than a year ago.
I’m just joking around. I actually hate buying suits. But I don’t have to wear them that often so I don’t mind spending money on the few I do buy. If you’re going to go with a chain store I like Brooks Brothers.
Quant, check Macy’s in downtown. They have a sale going on with 2 wool suits for $350. I just saw the advertising in the mail.
