People in finance, especially research, only make a big name for themselves by taking lopsided bets (which pay off). Remember some of the big names during the dot.bomb era (Mary Meeker, Henry Blodget and Jack Grubman)? Where are they now? All they said was, up, up, up right from the start (they were right for a long time, but eventually they were very wrong, everyone thought they were geniuses while they were right). Yes MW was correct, but was she correct due to some particular insight she has relative to the thousands of other analysts? Directionally she had the insight (she is cleary well versed in financials) but predicting the scale and scope of the “financial correction” was a big bet (and one that paid off, as the sometimes do.). She is not a seer or a financial genius.
