They didn’t try it honestly. There was a smaller caravan awhile back that disbanded on the journey but about 200 made it to US asylum. This is essentially new technology.
Mexico’s Interior Minister Alfonso Navarrete told reporters on Sunday evening that federal police did not have any weapons, even to fire plastic bullets.
He said that some of the migrants had guns while others had Molotov cocktails, and this information had been passed on to other Central American governments.
Guatemala’s government said in a statement that it regrets that the migrants didn’t take the opportunity of dialogue and instead threw stones and glass bottles at police.
Back when I lived in a state with freedom, if someone would have broke down my door, and threw stones and rocks, they would be met with multiple guns! Can’t see why a country can’t do the same!
to be fair, there’s a lot of useless americans as well. i’d say about the bottom 33% is prolly net negative even when you take any posittive externalities their productivity brigns. the point is that these illegals are very likely all going to be in that bottom percentiles, so there is no point in adding them to the melting pot.
besides the more people, the less feasible ubi is! in addition the people receiving ubi, may not even be true loyal americans.
How you like that? What, you want me to stay there and do nothing? Hey, I’m no fuckin’ criminal, man. I’m no puta or thief. I’m Tony Montana, a political prisoner from Cuba. And I want my fuckin’ human rights, now!
Tony Montana: You know somethin’? You can send me anywhere. Here, there, this, that; it don’t matter. There’s nothing you can do to me that Castro has not done.
It could be new technology, that’s one explanation, another might be that they have been coming in a slow drip for decades, but the situation in the home country has worsened and the trip has become more dangerous so they have taken to coming in groups.
The economic argument against immigration is weak, the US economy today needs both high and low skilled immigrants. Sure robotics and new tech will reduce the need for low skilled labor…but recall that there are more cashiers today than ever, more bank tellers today than ever, more hotel cleaning people today than ever… In addition, tax research has shown immigrants, even undocumented ones, pay billions in federal tax.
The strongest argument is what trump started with before he reduced it into shameless racism – as he always does – which is that we have an immigration process and if you don’t follow it then it is patently unfair to all those who do.
he taxes the illegals pay is de minimis because they are usually paid very low, a 21k income is prolly only a 1k tax. their net costs to society however will be higher if we look at it in aggregate, for example to the usg, each person costs them 18k.
granted that 21k income prolly generates 3x to society in terms their employer’s revenue, so maybe an additional 40k taxable, so an additional 10k tax received assuming 25% marginal tax from his employer! at 11k tax generated, still a net negative overall.
I’m mostly confused on why Mexico allows this group of illegal visitors to just walk across the country in this fashion. Imagine how ridiculous it would be for the US army to allow 5k foreign nationals to just walk across the border, and then all the way across the country like some sightseeing trip.
Haha, the reason I know I’m right is that you have the Mexican Minster of the Interior (the most qualified person in this situation) making these comments unambiguously it has been covered by no-name rags like Reuters and Time as well as smaller outlets like Mexico News Daily, Daily Mail and the obligatory Fox. Aside from a passing mention by WaPo the mainstream media has been dead silent on that. It’s amazing. You have a guy killed in the clashes, fireworks, stones and molotov cocktails and the Minister of Interior saying some had guns and its just completely not mentioned.
Then you get the libtards asking naively why it hasn’t been covered in CNN, et al, the answer is in your question folks. Anyhow, you can trash on dailymail and I’m sure it sucks but at least they are alongside Reuters covering pertinent info straight from the Mexican authorities instead of whitewashing the narrative. Saying this is “as bad” as linking to BNP is probably a bit overkill. You are right, a couple years ago I naively forgot UK was a third world island country and assumed they didn’t have straight up white supremacist parties, I stand corrected. Funny to watch people still clinging to that. Jesus wept.
