I took 2 mock exams on CFA site. On both the exams I got 77 (64%). On the forums I read that if you want to pass comfortably, you should get 84 (which is 70%). I scored about 60% in Ethics in both the exams. Is 77 (64%) just enough to cross the line?
who knows. try and improve ethics is what i would say, but we all know CFAI can smash us to the ground if they want with ethics.
people who score consistent 70s should be in great shape for the exam, but there aren’t too many people in analystforum (who are the people who actually care enough about the exam to talk about it on a forum and post their results) who get that.
picture a couple boats floating towards an island, there’s a tiny boat with rahul roy, providenceCFA and a couple others who are going to reach the island first, then there’s a bigger boat with you, me and a whole bunch of other analystforum users, most of whom will also reach the island, maybe with some seawater in their lungs, but we crawl to the safety of the beautiful white sand anyways. in the far distance, you can see the ship of people who didn’t care enough to study or had too many commitments to study well, who have decided to give it a go and didn’t pass. but they did help lower the MPS, so look at them, smile happily, shout your words of gratitude, wave and tell them that we will see them on this island in a year’s time.
I lost you at picture a couple of boats…then bam think of the WAM and then WACC. I Beta start studying.
You are in good shape scores dont mean anything at all. Only your knowledge matters mocks are to get to know how the paper would be presented to you. Your scores are good. 2-3 correct mcqs could make or break you in level 2. Dont start to panic now, you need confidence at this point and just pray to God

Last year I was scoring mid to low 80s on the Schweser mocks and scored a 76 on the CFAI mock, I passed – though my score report was all over the place. No one should feel “comfortable” based on mock scores because they just don’t count. As I move through the CFA program I have come to realize that the amount of curriculum that is tested drops at each level, I guess this is logical as there are fewer questions. I feel like (my opinion only) that the L1 test covered a larger % of the L1 curriculum than the L2 test did, and I am expecting even less coverage on L3. What this means is that you need to be taking mocks not just to see how you score but more importantly to see what it is you don’t know as you may catch an exam that really hits you in areas where you are soft. My logic is that if I am consistently in the 80s then the likelihood of catching an exam that really is hard for me personally diminishes. There are horror stories of people scoring mid 80s+ on mocks only to fail on exam day and there are stories of people barely able to scratch 60 who pass on exam day – the point being (I think) that the exam is fluid and you aren’t really sure going into it what curve balls you are going to get thrown. Do as many mocks as you can and focus on what you are missing or are unsure about – your actual mock scores are secondary for L2 and even more so (I think) for L3.
I havent wrote the mock. Why do you have two numbers? you listed your score as 64(77). What does that mean?
That you got 64% of the answers correct and are in the 77th percentile?
Thanks
I think he means he got 77 questions right. Since 77/120 is about 64%
As of now I wrapped up both CFAI mocks; scored 73% on 3 sessions and 58% for the other- a 73% and a 66%
Honestly I’m not sure how accurate of a representation this sample is for a variety of reasons.
-
Some questions were recycled from the sample questions posted online
-
Any question I was not absolutely certain of, or guessed on was highlighted red (there were lots of these)
-
CFAI could very well rape us on exam day
Finish strong in this last week and keep trucking
you are right CFA_mixer. I got 77 questions correct which is 64%.
I took Mock 2 yesterday and was highly discouraged after taking the afternoon session. it was brutal! but it seems it was tough for everyone as I read in some of the posts including AFusername1234.
Trying to recover and focus again for the D-day. With all said and done, I am sure there is always an element of luck for such exams, especially if you are in the just passing zone as I am.
I managed to pass the L2! What a relief!!!
congratulations.
Thanks!
Is anyone from here joining in Level 3?
Mocks dont mean much to me except discouragement.
Level 1 - high 60’s nad low 70’s on mocks - took them the day before the exam - passed exam first attempt
Level 2 - low 60’s and low 70’s on mocks - took them the day before the exam - passed exam first attempt
4 weeks before I had a mock and only 60%. I was a bit terrified and worked really hard, a week later I passed the mocks from Schweser and got consistently 70% on the first! studied more and got more on the second mock up to getting 85%+ on the last few mocks.
when I got to the exam I thought I screwed up, but got over 70% in all topics except three where I got between 50 and 70%.
So try to learn a lot about all topics, because maybe you ll get a topic that was not in the mocks …
I think my highest Schweser mock was ~ 68% (maybe the 3rd one I took). Most of them were low 60s. On both CFA mocks I scored 74 & 77 though and I also passed the exam… I was sweating bullets though because my Schweser scores got in my head.
Agreed that mocks may not mean much if a person cannot handle the pressure on the D-day. I got 77 (64%) in CFA mocks and felt a little push would help me sail through and it did.
I was averaging low 60% in Schweser mocks. Got 54% in CFA mock about 2 weeks before the exam. I was super frustrated and I thought that I wasn’t prepared enough so I really pumped up my studying after scoring awfully in the mock. I thought the actual exam was easier compared to the official mock and the Schweser. Felt good after the exam though I kept my expectations low so as to avoid disappointment just in case I didn’t make pass.
