Mock Exams (S2000, Nana, and others please advise)

So, having gone through a good portion of material twice (incluing BB and EOC) chapter questions, it still seems that when i go back and try solving questions on those parts, i feel that i m kinda not having the same solid grasp of the material (when i did them say few weeks ago…)?? Pls advise if its normal for Level2?

Dont know how to approach the mocks- if i pick one i look at the question and feel i’m blanking out…:frowning: Like Fixed Income, until last month i knew the material in and out did all the questions…and i know if will spend another few days i will be able to recall all the material, but when does this cycle stop… Everybody says revision is the key, totally agreed but it seems like the materail just keeps sliping away. What to do?

Now that we are entering the final months here, should i simply switch to (Schweser Secret sause or Elan 11th hour or FinQuiz), continue to revise the material and just do the mocks? May be for the mocks, i start with an untimed test (with materials in front of me) and then gradually over next few weeks switch to exam like conditions??

Please share your thoughts, experiences any pitfalls to avoid

As ususal, much appreciated

Totally normal.

Keep plugging away. You’re doing the right thing. And you’re probably learning more than you realize.

I think that practice exams and mock exams are most appropriately left until mid-April at the earliest. Until then, review the material again. Write out flash cards. Redo all of the BB and EOC questions. Jump around so that you don’t hit one topic all at once, then ignore it for three weeks.

Once we hit mid-April, do as many practice/mock exams as you can, under conditions as close to real test conditions (i.e., 60 questions in 3 hours, lunch break, another 60 questions in 3 hours) as you can muster. Do an exam on Saturday, review it on Sunday, spend the week reviewing the areas that gave you trouble.

Greenman knows whereof he speaks.

I am going through the same thing .Its overwhelming. I will go by your suggestions .I think that will help me.

I wanted to leverage off this post to ask a similar question regarding planned study schedule. I recently completed my first round of studying (primarily thru Schweser and CFAI BB and end of chapter questions). My main question is what would such experts recommend for a study plan for the next 1.5 months, i.e. until May when I’ll sit in on a review course and mock, mock, mock. My current idea is to study for 2 hours a day using a qbank and devote 1 hour each to a random category, such as FRA or Equity, with a focus on mirroring such time to the exam weights. I assume in the beginning I would go slower and incorporate my notes more as I doubt a ton of such information was initially retained and hopefully by the end of the 1.5 months hardly using any notes for review. I might also blend in back of the book questions and BB.  Thoughts? This is my first attempt and I want to do it right. I greatly appreciate any feedback and recommendations/improvements. Thank you!

QBank questions are not a good barometer in general, and the advanced questions, specifically, are only challenging because they’re so long-winded. I would recommend going through all the EOCs again. You can’t do them too much. If you come across a questions for which you’ve memorized the right answer choice (a, b, or c), be honest with yourself and only choose the right answer if you can explain WHY it’s the right answer first. Those questions are straight from the horse’s mouth, take advantage of that. I may have done each EOC 3-5 times at L2.

You have to keep going back and re-doing the questions! that’s why it’s important to re-do the mocks as well as you may not fully understand and remember everything.

And you have to identify the topics you are struggling, and i have a few options.

Either you look at provider’s alternative materials (such as the ones you mentioned and video lectures) to see if you can understandt eh questions better with a different approach.

Or, you can see if you can find yourself a local study group and have other people explain it to you (and you can explain other sections to others), it is probably not too late!

Keep working on questions, especially on the topics you are struggling with. Don’t worry about reading the textbooks at this point (because you probably won’t get it by just reading it over and over again).

and as always… BEST OF LUCK!!!

NANA

Couldnt agree more with what the posters have suggested. May I add that finishing one reading from all topics and then taking time to recall the concepts and formulae straight from memory also helps retaining the concepts . This way ,you are constantly working with some of the teasers that you may confront . Finishing a chapter with a prep provider’s guide and following it up with EOCs /BBs also works wonder.

This is really a good post! In similar shoes, not sure when to get going on the questions…been ploughing through the video classes straight to try and get most of the learning over and done with and keep up with the live classes ( I signed up quite late). @S2000magician, should I also wait till early April to get going on question practice? or pause the videos and start banging away with the questions? Progress so far, done FRA, CF, Quants, Half way through Equity…oh and the forex bit in Economics… Panic Station!!! indecision

You should be doing questions as soon as you start studying, right up to the time you start doing practice/mock exams.

Get busy!

Yes, sir! Thank you

My pleasure.

Thanks Everybody- Really helpful
