I just put down my study notes and was heading to bed. For a reminder as to why I’m subjecting myself to this CFA torture I decided to stop by craigslist and check out the ‘accounting+finance’ DFW job section. I searched “CFA” and… got the result… Nothing found for that search ( All words must match ). ‘WHAT!!! That can’t be right’ I thought to myself. I came to the conclusion that their search function must not be working. To test that theory I searched ‘CPA’ and… got the result… Found: 28 Displaying: 1 - 28 *SIGH*
…but would you really want to spend the rest of your life counting beans as an accountant?
looks like CPA > CFA now the question is MBA > CFA? hahahaha
there just are not many jobs available in finance (or anywhere) right now… it will come back. and when it does, you will be bankin’ CFA and it will still mean something. feel pretty strongly about that.
Doesn’t this much knowledge about economics and finance, asset valuation etc has no value ? I am sure it does.

maybe I’m too old and not with the times but why would you expect to see CFA jobs on craigslist? Isn’t that site for buying and selling baseball cards?

It’s also a site that employers can list jobs for free, unlike Monster, hotjobs, careerbuilder, etc. A friend of mine owns an accounting firm and he always hires off of it. With that said, about 1/3 of the people he hires turn out to be total busts and he fires them within a month. Those people were probably on there trying to sell their Don Mattingly rookie card and accidentally applied. I’m sure the CFA Charter, and the knowledge acquired in obtaining the charter, has value and when we come out of this recession I’m sure that value will increase, but I am amazed at the disparity in job hits between the CFA and CPA designations.
Every industry across the board needs accountants . That is not the case for investment people . There will always be more CPA’s than CFA’s .
CPA is a lot easier to get than a CFA also.
i think CFA is is the higher end of all these designations and we hire people thru recruiters … craglist is CRAP only inferior employer and candidate use that to look for matches
Warren Buffet has neither a CFA nor a CPA
I’ve seen some junior jobs in nyc. While they might not be what you want, operations and funds research. It is a job.
