Mr Trump fired comey . Opinions ?

Reserve duty

Higgmond it’s not up to DEMS at this point. GOP has a majority and will not start an independent investigation or impeachment proceedings. You’re going to have to continue the agony until 2018.

today McConnell said “Today we’ll no doubt hear calls for a new investigation, which could only serve to impede the current work being done.” Kind of like what firing the FBI director who was running the investigation did?

what possible explanation is there to deny an independent investigation? oh, I get it. there is guilt throughout the GOP ranks

The longer the GOP sticks with Trump the bigger the loss in 2018 will be. GOP needs to start thinking about the future and distance itself from Trump.

Minimal losses and risk for the GOP in 18. Only really upside.

In the Senate yes, the house I believe quite a few house seats are up and historically in midterms the presidents party loses quite a few seats

I’m one of the oldsters on here, but even I was too young to remember this thing happening…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watergate_scandal

The arrests at Watergate were on June 17, 1972. Nixon resigned August 9, 1974.

Two other items:

* Nixon won the 1972 election in a landslide. All the covert stuff against the DNC was irrelevant and a self-inflicted wound.

* The Republicans suffered big losses in 1974.

^Frisian, did you read birdman’s post? He said minimal losses. I’m sure he knows more than a historical event.

That is true. In fact, ALL the seats in the House are up for reelection.

At least there’s one rational independent voice in Washington:

http://insider.foxnews.com/2017/05/10/rand-paul-comey-firing-dems-pushing-huge-myth-about-trump-russia

sounds like nothing more than “muh Russia” empty rhetoric piping up when something happens the establishment doesn’t like.

Although they can’t begin impeachment proceedings, every state attorney general in the country has the ability to sue the President, they only need to demonstrate standing. There are 24 democrats serving as state attorney general and 3 independents. They can sue him for violating the emoluments clause of the constitution or for violating a law in their state. If any one of their investigations turns up actual proof of wrong doing, there would be more than enough votes in congress to impeach.

In all honesty though, I don’t think dems want Trump impeached. He’s far too easy to attack and him still being in office is their best hope for winning in 2020.

To your highlighted point I think this is coming and what the dems are banking on. apparently Preet Bharara coordinated with NYS AG Eric Schneiderman to pass along the case he was building at the federal level. The best part of this scenario is is DJT cant pardon everyone involved as he has no authority to do so over state level charges. He also has no ability to manipulate the state investigation like he is doing with the federal.

As to your last point, I fear that is true. He is an easy punching bag and will help dems keep their seats & gain plenty in midterms and should have the dems base riled up enough for 2020 to be an easy Kanye victory.

I don’t understand anyone wanting to get rid of Trump. Pence is way, way worse.

Right? Trump is a buffoon but Pence is like religious cult scary. I couldn’t believe Higgs post.

what exactly is this? i’m pretty sure the democrat party is dead. after the DNC sh!tshow last year, there’s going be a ton of jockeying to capture disaffected democrats (next man up ain’t happening). it’s going to be a painful change that both parties are going to have to go through before a new center mass can be created in either party.

Tbh if trump goes down I am not so sure Pence is clean in all of this either. They’ll try and make him out to be but we will see based on the evidence.

If he does become pres its easy to see them shipping off some gays to “Holocaust Centers” fairly rapidly

If Trump was to get impeached, the Dems shouldn’t touch Pence unless he kills bald eagles on Facebook Live. Going after two sitting Presidents back-to-back would come off as spiteful and pettish.

I’m not pro-Pence, I’m anti-Trump. Even if Trump had the best policy ideas in the world, there is no way he’ll ever be able to govern effectively and quite honestly I’m tired of all the blatant lies being told on both sides. CNN and MSNBC have been bringing out a constant parade of democratic congress people today and each and every one of them says the same thing: “We need to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Trump administration”, but not one of them mentions the fact that congress let the law authorizing them to appoint a special prosecutor expire 18 fuqquing years ago (yes, you can blame the GOP for that) and not one of the “journalists” asks them on what legal grounds a special prosecutor would be appointed. Of course the end (and desired result) is that every uninformed idiot watching walks away thinking that the GOP refuses to appoint a special prosecutor, despite the fact that they couldn’t even if they wanted to (which they probably don’t, but the point is moot).

At least under a Pence (or Ryan) administration, dems would have to oppose policies instead of the man and there could be honest debate, which is the reason they’re actually quite happy to keep him in office.

It’s not the Democrats who are running the investigation of Trump and his crew, it’s the US intelligence community and its affiliated agencies. You know, the kind of organizations that largely consist of civil servants who take an oath to uphold the Constitution and all that quaint stuff.

I’d take Pence instead of Trump in a heartbeat. I sincerely fear for the safety of our country and our standing in the world with this egomaniac child and his imbecile “brain” trust running things.

BTW, today Trump hosted the Russian foreign minister (Lavrov) and the Russian ambassador (Kislyak) in the Oval Office. American press was not permitted access. But Russian media was permitted to take photos of the three men in the Oval Office. Very chummy. Of course, nothing bad could happen by letting some Russian state media photographers into the Oval Office, right? I’m sure no bugs were planted.

Since sessions recused himself, I believe the deputy AG rosenstein would need to appoint a special prosecutor. same guy that wrote one of the memos to have Comey fired :bulb:. like I say, whole thing is corrupt as hell and they lie constantly. really a disgrace to the USA
