Mullets

Hey guys,

I’m happy to say work has been going pretty well, but I’m fixing to add more excitement to my after-hours life.

One such change I’m considering is a mullet. Business in the front, party in the back. Yeah, you know what I’m talking about.

Has anyone here successfully pulled off the look, or know of people who have? What’s the secret?

Yuck

You are joking, right?

No MacGyver?

Hell yes. Mullets were radical in the 80’s. I’ve been waiting patiently for them to come back. Blaze a trail numi. I’ll be right behind you in a pastel tee under my white blazer.

Nothing says “I make so much money for the firm, you can’t afford to fire me” like showing up at the office with a mullet.

will you rock a fanny pack with that?

There is a very successful hedge fund manager who is wearing an absurd multi-colored poncho in his LinkedIn picture. I always felt like you would have to be a pretty cool person to pull that off. I met him a while ago and he’s hilarious.

I don’t have any mullet stories, sorry to disappoint. But I do support numi growing a mullet.

But it numi were to become a true BSD one day to the level of Bill Gross etc., then maybe people will start to emulate his sense of fashion. Maybe one day, this will be the distinguishing hair style of successful finance people. Someone just needs to take the first step.

Business in the front, party in the back.

Mullets are bad, perm mullets are worse.

Was it JTLD/IHIHM?

No it wasn’t. At least I don’t think so… maybe?

Well, nothing is cooler in my opinion than a combination of:

  • being a bad-ass at work, especially at a bad-ass job like buying securities @ a hedge fund

  • “not a single fuck was given today”-vibe.

Not sure you can pull off the second, TS, but judging from your posts you do fullfill the first requirement.

I say do it, TS.

Saw this, and had to come back to this thread: lots of mullets here…

CHUCK NORRIS!!!

Are mullets actually making a comeback? I haven’t seen that at all.

Beards are having a moment right now, so no reason mullets can’t come back. Fashion is very repetitive.

is the mullet the only fashion trend that hasn’t had a 2nd coming?

I think mullets are becoming popular with women now and they never really went out of style with NHL players.

I think fashion is driven by the desire of teenagers to annoy their parents by appropriating cultural symbols of their parents’ youth and screwing with it. This is why it runs in 20-30 year cycles. 2014 - 30 = 1984, so 80s fashions are up for review…
