Municipals or Corporates?

Looking for some career advice… I may have an opportunity to make a career switch into buy-side credit research (I’m currently working for a mid-size corporate strategy consulting firm), but I’m not sure if I should head for municipals or investment grade corporates (my only two potential options for now). I don’t have any experience in either area, but I’m definitely interested in fixed income credit research in general as an entry point into the investment management world. My questions/concerns: -If municipal research is where I end up, would that pigeon-hole me for future opportunities more than corporate credit research? Ideally, I would like to keep open as many future financial industry options as possible (equity research, investment strategy, M&A, private equity, etc.) -Is the work significantly different in terms of the skills gained or how interesting it is? I mean, I know analyzing California tollroads is different than analyzing IBM, but isn’t the general process pretty similar? Maybe not? -Is one viewed more favorably in the broader investment management world or are they essentially equivalent from a prestige perspective? Is the outlook better for careers in one or the other? I know beggers can’t be choosers in this market, but I also don’t want to get stuck for a few years heading down a relatively less favorable path. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.
