My 40 Day Study Plan.

Just putting it down as I thought it may be useful to somebody in one or other way. My back ground: nothing related to finance or any other mgmt… other than few basic b-school courses, as a side, I have taken during my Engineering Masters. So, I would say the stuff I learnt during my 2009 June Level 1 was my major background. I work full time with most Fridays off and I took off the week before the exam. Because of my other very important constraints, I had to do this in 40 days, including the exam day. Following was my study material, schedule and the results: Study Material: Complete Schweser Study Notes. I was not 100% confident. Morning exam was bad and after noon exam was good. Few things to share: :: 40 day plan? Easy – No, Possible – Yes. :: In total I must have spent close to 120 concentrated hours. :: Schweser videos were good to get the ball rolling, at the start. After a while I had to leave them because of the time constraints. :: After the exam I felt that I would have been in a much better position to face the exam had I taken few more practice tests. I just took one (CFA Morning Mock) and If I remember correctly I scored around 70%. :: Sticking to study plan and making my own notes for quick revision was the key. And more than any thing else, I really liked reading that stuff and never felt bored. :: In the whole process I was more inclined towards learning the stuff than the exam itself. If some one choose to/has to follow this path and pass the exam, my best wishes to them. They’ll need many!

Great! !!! respect!

hey, I probably spent a little more time then you. Seems like u have a good plan. But I’ve never watched the videos, what is the difference between that and ready the schweser notes? Does it just save time? thx.

It really is more about quality of study vs. quantity!

When I read about people passing after just 40 days of studying it really makes me feel like an idiot for having failed after nine months of studying.

> If some one choose to/has to follow this path and pass the exam, my best wishes to them. They’ll need many! Key point quoted – OP’s result is well above the 90 percentile of users on this forum who have posted their progress, from what I’ve seen. If anyone reading this is thinking about doing anything similar, an honest self reflection is called for. The other ‘40 day’ plan by an actuary did not go as smoothly.

@ JudoSweep what is the difference between that and ready the schweser notes? “Notes + Videos” > Notes > Videos Notes has all the content they have in videos and few things more. But, if the instructor is good, videos would help to have a better grip on the subject. Does it just save time? Not exactly. In fact, with my schedule, I found it is the opposite. Videos, along with notes, definitely helped me to have a better understanding but I found it time taking and couldn’t fit both into my schedule after a while. My idea of using videos was to get into serious study mode at the start. Thanks

I tried L2 this year with a ~50 day plan but failed Band 8. I didn’t intend on condensing my study schedule down to that level but, sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you learn to deal. I ran out of time on FRA and never really had time to master all of the concepts before the exam date. I know that I went 6/6 on the Pension Accounting but, I ended up with a <50 in the subject area so I must have ultra bombed the other 18 questions. 40 days is certainly possible although not advisable. There are so many outside variables that could derail your study time.

I can tell you are really into the material

Proceed with caution into level 3, my friend. And good luck.
