Programmer, One quick question, for Equity - did you study EOC last year or Qbank?
I did Schweser + CFAI EOC problems. No Qbank.
Programmer, AMG, did you guys study a lot??? Do all the practice exams etc?
Ethics is insane at level 3. Every year I re-read the code of conduct 2-3x and do all the EOC questions with >90% pass rate. but I only got a 50-70 band on ethnics last year. (only read the asset manager code once from CFAI text and not from the booklet).
Band 8 here last year. I was getting smoked on time and had skipped the contingent immunization q as to get to the back side of the AM. obviously my come back to it with like 5 min left in the Am didn’t work out so well. i was literally in a scramble AM 6-9… and it showed. and as i said, i’m an ethical ninja. it’s really about all i’ve got.
Bannisja, you are killing me. This is my strategy to do average in IPS and above average in Ethics, FI, Equity and AI. you smoked these sections and still did not pass. I cannot believe it. Is this because you sucked in Risk Mgmt? I still do not understand this
ok, i didn’t get exactly a >90% but 3/6 at a min and often 4 or 5 out of 6 on those questions. Bannisja your band 8 looks mine better then mine band 8. I remember I had an hour to spare on PM and I thought I nailed it. Apparently I must of not known the material taht well. i do like to engage in risky things. i missed the return calc on the individual IPS and it took me a while, bad move # 1. felt good on the inst IPS. my FI AM set and what followed was a rushed effort. i will not hesitate to turn the page this year and leave the return calc til the end if need be. i may even just do that anyways so long as it doesn’t build up on the rest of the IPS. My strategy last year and this year- do well on both IPS’s, kill ethics (like, take it very seriously), kill GIPS, and for me usually equity is my next best section. funnily, on this year’s mock it was my 2/6 set. need to review. risk/attribution/rebal/derivs… i’ll say this- there are a lot of math-y formula things that i’m not great at. i try to survive here. FI usually i do ok on, but due to time constraints did not put forth a solid AM effort on the immunization q. band 8 is still a bit away from a pass, so i needed to work more obviously. hopefully i’ve plugged enough holes to pass this year. we’ll see soon. also, pass rate last year was in the 40’s… that is pretty brutal IMO.
Why did everyone mess up risk mgmt. isn’t that derivatives
What year was that original tabulation from? In the good old days people only needed to turn up and be able to write their name and candidate number on the exam and they passed =)
pass rate in the 40s is BRUTAL for level 3…i mean how many more hoops do they want us to jump through we already got through level 1 and 2. Level 3 should be the same difficulty as level 1 IMO since level 2 weeds A LOT of people out of the process.

I think they are more worried about the sheer number of people passing. In the beginning level III was too easy, now maybe too hard? I expect pass rate to be low 40’s this year based on trend.

Could be recallability because I recall a really low result from last year as well.

Disagree, I think CFAI gives a break to people every 4-5 years in level 3 and pass rate jumps up. Based on this, last time the break was 2006, so 5 years are up. Before 2006 was 2001 with 82% pass rate. This year should be a better pass rate over 50% for sure, most likely over 60%. Look at the pass rate for Level 3 in third column: http://www.cfainstitute.org/cfaprogram/Documents/1963_current_candidate_exam_results.pdf
I pray they do something like this because I am not going to do this again if I flunk. MY ROI on time is much better than this.
