my buddy's 2005 Level 3 results= pass!!!!

Check out my friend’s distribution----this is no joke. And this was a passing distribution. I have no idea how that was possible. joking

No way. What is he the son of the CFO of CFA Institute?

You have to work very hard to fail that exam…

I also can’t believe this is true, less than half are above the 60-70 range, he would’ve had to get 70 on each of those mid points to even have a chance

shot the moon?

I promise you all this is real. He sits right next to me all day and his business card has those 3 letters we’re all killing ourselves for. Pass rates that year were 55%, and the following year they wer 76%! Anyway, I’m with you guys- but I’m not making this up, no reason to.

I was so amazed to see this that I just did an analysis on this… Assumptions : He got >> 50 (<=50), 70 (50-70), 90 (>70) and the results were quite surprising… he got exactly 64% in both am/pm sections. Any comments??

Ethics bump? - no…that’s below 50% If you fail ethics, what’s to stop you from putting CFA after your name on the biz card? Heck, why not go all out and make it bold?!?

Great now I just have to finish building my time machine and I’ll be in business!

FinNinja- I hear you- but he keeps his giant CFA Certificate underneath his desk. He keeps it right under him, and I saw it with my own eyes. It comes in a bulky cylindrical box. You will find out soon…

i can believe that

I believe it. Its barely a pass, but its a pass. Look at my band 10 fail last year: Essay Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% 1 Portfolio Management - Individual 35 - - * 2 Portfolio Management - Institutional 25 - - * 3 Portfolio Management - Institutional 24 * - - 4 Economics 14 * - - 5 Portfolio Management - Asset Allocation 15 - - * 6 Fixed Income Investments 18 * - - 7 Portfolio Management - Risk Management 20 * - - 8 Portfolio Management - Monitor&Rebalance 17 * - - 9 Portfolio Management – Performance Eval. 12 - - * Item Set Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 18 - - * - Equity Investments 36 * - - - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - - * - Fixed Income Investments 36 - * - - Portfolio Management 18 - - * - Portfolio Management - Individual 18 * - - - Portfolio Management - Risk Management 18 * - - 8 of the 16 sections I had last year were below 50%, and yet I was still band 10. That must mean other people just suck really bad.

wow, boom or bust distribution

lol i changed…hee hee

Programmer, I cannot believe you failed. you did really well in IPS, AI, Ethics. ok in FI. These are the bulk. What happened in Equity Income. Was it that difficult?

its all relative. its a curve. studying pass scores of past candidates is not helpful unless the comparison is side by side with the average/minimum “passing” scores

my band 10 to add: Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% 1 Portfolio Management - Individual 35 - - * 2 Portfolio Management - Institutional 25 - * - 3 Portfolio Management - Institutional 24 * - - 4 Economics 14 - * - 5 Portfolio Management - Asset Allocation 15 - - * 6 Fixed Income Investments 18 * - - 7 Portfolio Management - Risk Management 20 * - - 8 Portfolio Management - Monitor&Rebalance 17 * - - 9 Portfolio Management – Performance Eval. 12 - * - Item Set Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 18 - - * - Equity Investments 36 - - * - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 * - - - Fixed Income Investments 36 - * - - Portfolio Management 18 - - * - Portfolio Management - Individual 18 - - * - Portfolio Management - Risk Management 18 * - -

man ethics! i am always nervous about ethics. what was your preparation? did you review CFAI EOC Ethics questions? I am sorry to dig at a sore spot, but i HATE ethics questions and feel like you can study them immensely and still be thrown off exam day.

As for Ethics… no matter how much you study they will still be able to throw questions at you that require lots of thinking. Its best to just keep doing problems over and over again and hope for the best.
