FrankLiving strikes again…

Yours truly Francis

I remember these for L2 last year! Way to see these again!!!

Love to see your notes again man, your L2 notes helped me a lot for revising during the last few days. Keep up the good work

appreciate it, champ! thanks a lot.

Definitely was a great aid for L2 last year, really good stuff! Appreciate your sharing again!

Frankliving - you are using quite a bit of my content in your free giveaway - You are of course free to give away your own work, but not free to give away the work of others. I also see that you use quite a bit of content from CFAI books. Again, I don’t think you are free to do that. Please remove your link.

I’ve seen a lot of paid prep providers use CFAI examples, questions and snapshots freely in their material.

Is that allowed?

So reselling for price > 0 is acceptable, but not for price = 0?

I second this Self Employed. Mark you are giving away level 1 CFA knowledge for free even. You condone in previous videos education should be widely available and accessible for all, and someone that has watched your videos and made his own notes on them is now doing wrong. I even use your videos Mark.

As much of Frank’s work is also his in these notes, why dont you explicitly show him where he is using your material and he can remove THOSE parts out. Asking him to take it all down is ludicrous.

Mark how do I know it is not you who took Frank’s notes!!

Yes.

Neither is without permission of the originator of the material.

I’ve seen both.

Mark did not take Frankliving’s notes.

For the record: I removed Frankliving’s link. If he wants to post a link to his own, original material, that’s fine.

I see, so if I understand you correctly, CFAI gives implicit (or explicit) permission to reuse their material and graphs/tables/screenshots to all prep providers - meaning there’s no need for prep provider to acknowledge/ quote the source each time. Is that right?

Also, does this rule hold for only approved prep providers or all prep providers?

Further, this Charterholder is reselling Schewser material freely on AF for $30.

Wouldn’t that be a violation on multiple fronts? Are we going to moderate this behavior or not?

Um . . . no.

I suspect only for the former, but you’d have to check with CFA Institute to be sure.

Please let us know what they tell you.

Without knowing the licensing agreement between Schweser and the original purchaser of the flashcards, I have no way of knowing.

Who’s “we”?

It seems as though you’re trying to make the point here that Mark has no right to prevent people from giving away his material.

If so, you’re wrong.

You do understand the idea of a copyright, no?

Bill, I have deep respect for your knowledge and helpfulness, there’s no question of that.

However, I have to disagree on this point where prep providers, who basically make a living off CFAI material, take a high moral ground. I’m not talking from legal perspective but a moral one. I also find double standards here - what one preaches, one doesn’t practice.

I’m not sure that I’m following your reasoning here.

CFA Institute has granted prep providers the right to use their material. There’s nothing immoral about them using it.

Mark didn’t grant Frank the right to use his material (nor, I suspect, did CFA Institute).

I’d feel the same as Mark if Frank had had copies of my material in his notes. And justifiably so.

You can re-read all my comments, I never endorsed OP’s action. I’m merely questioning the rules and certain actions which clearly look like double standards.

If everyone in AF started thinking and enforcing every word they write as “my work, my copyright”, AF wouldn’t exist. There won’t be any sharing or growth of ideas and knowledge. That’s all I’m trying to say.
