Need advice for FRM part II

I just done CFA III this Jun and waiting for the result.

now i’m thinking to take FRM part II, in part I i only use schweser and FRM actual question that post in GARP website for preparation

i wonder if it would be enough if i do the same in part II. (in part I i think BT is too deep and the practise question is quite harder compare to the real exam - just look around the BT forum didn’t buy them)

thanks for your advice

My answer has several caveats, so bear with me.

I used only Schweser and the FRM questions from GARP’s website for Part I myself, and while I didn’t feel great coming out of the exam, I passed. So of course, in retrospect, I say that it worked – just like for you it seems.

Now I just took Part II in May 2013, and I only really added additional BT materials very late in the game. Like you, I looked at the BT materials and thought – “Do I really need to go this deep?” Let me give you a quick answer – YES! While I obviously am still waiting for the results, if I’m being honest, I felt absolutely terrible coming out of that exam having only primarily used Schweser for the bulk of my studying.

In the little bit of BT material that I used, I saw much more overlap in the style and depth of questions that actually appeared on Part II exam, and Schweser did not even come close with any of its QBank or Practice Exams, whatsoever. In fact, if I knew back in Jan/Feb that this was going to be the case, I would have spent much more time with the BT material early on. Schweser is good for developing a base, but in my opinion (at least with the questions on this last Part II exam cycle), it isn’t sufficient by itself to confidently master the Part II exam.

I assume you are probably partial to the slick, self-contained packaging and convenience of the Schweser product, and I get that. The problem is, the investment you will take to just get acclimated to the BT material style and delivery method will be worth much more than the perceived convenience of Schweser come test time.

Hope that helps.

FRM part II is more difficult than part I. Passed part I without preparation purely based on what I’ve learned from the CFA curriculum. For part II, I read half of the GARP books but Idon’t think I made it this time. So expect more preparation for part II. Maybe Schweser and Garp exams will do the trick again but I reccomend buying the GARP books.

Good luck with your CFA part 3 results.

thank you very much Destroys and R Cash :slight_smile:

you make me having a good start

@Destroyer of Worlds

I would like to know if you paased in FRM Part 2 using Schweser from 1st time or it didn’t work I’m hesitated between using Schweser vs BT till now Schweser is well organized but with easy questions while BT is not organized at with tons of questions. GARP materials are too long and no practice. Hope to know what happened in the past & your advice
