Need help on work experience approval / job description

I passed CFA L3 exam a few years ago, and finally have my 4-year work experience done and ready to apply for the charterholder.

I have 3-year work experience in an asset management firm, which I see no problems to get approved.

But the one year experience I have in an accounting/finance department as an accountant from not-investing related company somewhat worries me out.

I have seen many whom work as IT professionals, engineers, even an pharmacist get their CFAs. I wonder how they word their job description/work experience and get approved.

I am about to move to a new firm, and they really want my CFA designation. so please help me out.

Since English is not my mother tongue, giving me a detailed example (actual examples you submitted, how long it has to be…etc) would be really appreciated… Thanks!!

If you want to pm me your submission, I’d be happy to advise if at all possible

Here is my advice…in your earlier roles if you facilitated with the investment decision process as i corporate finance decision to buy/sell equipment, IT, marketing proposals and you gathered data, compiled spreadsheets to help with cash flow projections, if you did NPV analysis, if you did anything that facilitated your supervisor or your company to invest corporate resources (cost benefit analysis) you contributed to the “investment decision making process” and that counts. Its not always about external market buys and sells of public traded securities but it can also be internally driven decisions.

I hope that helps in some small way.

^ Your advice helps me a lot… I just submitted my application. Hope everything turns out fine. Thanks!

I’m sure it will and your so close anyway to the four year window. If your experience doesn’t work for the CFA Institute (which I think it would) you’ll have the relevant time in before you know it. Congratulations on passing the exam now go set the world on fire with your expertise and ensure the financial market place has a higher standard of professional practice.

^ My application has been approved by CFAI. Now it’s on society review stage. My local society said it won’t take no longer than 2 weeks for review so I’m very close to earn my charter. Thanks for your kind help!!

Your very welcome, glad this worked out and enjoy that charter and designation. You should be very proud!
