New Headquarters for AMZN

Dude these guys are liberal snobs and it’s a tech company. If it was some Car Factory or Food Business maybe your choices would have been correct. There is no way a Top 10 MBA/Computer Scientist would move to a red state without a significant increase in pay.

DMV Area(Includes 3 of the locations), NYC and Boston are the only choices that make sense.

Bezos used to be a humble guy selling books from his garage. Now, the company is a tech giant full of liberal sn… err educated people, who will turn their nose to places like Georgia or Ohio. Maybe someone high up in the company will force them to accept things they don’t want due to some demonstrable benefit, it’s a pretty strong headwind to fight.

lol lets assume that the business decisions of people we dont know based on what we believe they think!

when was bezos a humble guy he was a freaking investment banker - he stated how he had the freedom to pursue amazon due to the fact he could always go back to wall street and still be wealthy

My sleeper choice, Pittsburgh, is still in the running. It’s got it all, it’s “cool” but not “trendy cool.” The city has the infrastructure to support a large business, it was once the steel capital of the world – the early 20th century equivalent to tech. It’s affordable and close to major AMZN distribution centers in PA. There’s great colleges in the area and it’s not a huge stretch to pull talent in from major Midwest or Northeast metro centers. Lastly, it’s in a swing state which would up it’s political clout with either party.

I also think Bezos would like the city to basically be defined by AMZN. DC, NYC, and Boston have so much history and current industry that AMZN would hardly move the needle. MSFT blew his chances to define Seattle.

Also, let’s not forget that he grew up in Florida and spent significant time in Texas. Apparently, he was very fond of his time in Texas and bought a ranch or something so his kids could have a similar experience.

Big drawbacks i see is the weather and lack of a direct flight to Seattle.

again - wholly incorrect where do people get an understanding of trendy? it really doesnt get more trendy than pittsburgh at the moment! incredibly hot in the tech area - really great real estate offerings although i believe STL or someone mentioned they dont have direct flights btw pitt & seattle.

Why would they come up with 3 locations within a 10-mile radius of each other? Y’all have to give more consideration to the DMV area.

bezos was a trader no at DE shaw. at least that was one of hte highlights in one of his bio summaries ive read.

also i vote los angles cuz we can handle this. WE Also GOT TSLA guys and snapchat. We are bubbleville.

Hmm… there is run-of-the-mill banker types, and there is the richest person in the country. I could quit my job now and not worry about money for the rest of my life. Maybe my situation is similar to Jeff Bezos’ before founding Amazon. However, it’s a joke to say I’m anywhere near what he has become.

Anyway, this seems to be getting away from the point, which is that Ivy League people, in general, favor coastal or similar areas, which they perceive to be intangibly better or possess higher concentrations of talented people. Part of this perception is justified, but lots of it is just snobbery. This might not automatically eliminate Red states from consideration, but it will introduce a strong bias against those places.

i mean its hard to say the talent pool around Nashville would be better than pittsburgh or boston… that said its not like Amazon would have a hard time getting people to move to nashville its a popular city i just hope they dont because nashville is cool & amazon is not. i dont envy making this decision - balancing cost of RE, labor costs, area to draw talent, tax deals etc etc is a tough call and is certainly more of an art than a science

DMV is the obvious best choice

“Life is a daring adventure or nothing at all”

I still say Austin, if I said it before, too lazy to look

lmao - never been to austin but its on a short list, heard its a pretty cool place. Now does austin still count as really texas tho? Like is the bbq there awesome or did all the transplants ruin it? debating hitting up austin/houston at some point

A little surprising Detroit and Memphis didn’t make the cut. Agree DC metro having three slots is interesting…and weird, DC, Northern Virginia and Bethesda area have always basically been the DC metro to me.

How about Philly? First we win the Super Bowl, then we win Amazon, because all we do is win (and buy dog masks). Honestly though, if Philly wins the Super Bowl then Amazon isn’t coming near the city after they see the chaos that ensues.

I went to Austin about 10 years ago on the way back from a Mexico City business trip. It was the last leg of the trip, flying home the next day, so I got to see a bunch of music and do some drinking that evening. It was a Thursday night and a very fun time. People were friendly. I assume it is unrecognizable now.

Some hardcore conservative don’t consider it Texas but I do (I’m pretty moderate by Texas standards). Huge tech presence. BBQ their is top notch, lots of good places in central Texas. Bar scene is cool, lots of live music. Nice parks and some really nice sights to see, I think you’d like it! Would visit Austin over Houston for sure.

If a city without direct flights to Seattle ends up being the choice, at least one of the major airlines would add direct flights between the two places pretty quickly. That probably isn’t a big drawback really.

Think you’re thinking of Boston there, buddy. Minus the longstanding trend of our former speakers of the state house going to prison and all.

Either going to be ATL or BOS.

But aren’t you tired of all the winning? We have to keep winning!
