Well New England, Seattle and Pittsburgh are all tops at 8-1 odds to win the SB next year. Whatever that means.

Awesome. Do it in the open for $10k cash. I’d seriously consider it.

hahaha ltj were the idiot who proposed on Gronks party ship? nothing says trashy like proposing at a sporting event etc.

Side note: I would totally have gone on that, Gronk is the man, that was probably fun as hell.

Second side note: He apparently offered the couple 10k to bang in front of everyone. I 100% would have done that. 10k is no joke.

I’m sure Belichick loves these stories… Gronk is the one guy who gets to exist as he pleases outside of the Hoodie’s bubble due to his other worldly talents. I can’t imagine Brandon LaFell sees the field for a month if he’s running a party ship and offering people to have sex for 10k.

I think as a coach you need to (and Belichick does) recognize when you have a talent like him and let things slide. That team is night and day without him. He really creates plays and openings that allow the offense to work. Gronk parties hard but for all I can tell the guy is a fantastic teammate and works his tail off, not a team in the league that doesnt need a player like that.

Although im sure the Eagles during the Big Red & Chip eras would have a problem with Gronk being Gronk and made a big deal about it. Hats off to Belichick for handling him the way he does, Gronk is an all time great.

Fred Smoot not impressed LMAO

Oh no doubt, Belichick’s even been on record of saying the obvious… past Pats’ seasons have been derailed when Gronk went down with injuries. Which is unheard of for him because he downplays every other injury with the next man up, do your job rhetoric. But I’m sure deep down it bugs him a bit that he can’t administer the same control over him that he does with the rest of his program. Look at how the team dealt with Gronk’s knee this year. Do the Patriots normally issue press releases regarding the statuses of their injured players? Lmao. Gronk (and family) runs the uh… ship… there.

Maybe one day Gronk can replace Cris Carter as the keynote speaker at the rookie symposium. Get rid of that ā€œeveryone get a fall guyā€ speech.

Belichick is a Parcells guy and was with him during almost the entire LT era. It’s well known that most team rules didn’t apply to LT, so not at all surprising that Gronk gets similar treatment under Belichick.

Gronk is the greatest TE in NFL history, even if he retired 2 years ago.

You mean the guy who’s only been in the NFL for six years? And who has only played a 16-game season twice (his first two years)? During the past four years, he’s averaged 12 games per year.

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have 100% of Jason Witten than 75% of Gronk. (Witten has played 13 years and only missed one game during his rookie season.)

I’m not trying to take anything away from the dude’s ability when he’s healthy and on the field. But it’s definitely too soon to put him in front of Witten, Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Mike Ditka, Kellen Winslow, Ozzie Newsome, or Shannon Sharpe.

(edit - and Jackie Smith, even with his Buckneresque Super-Bowl-winning drop)

Most dominant is the more appropriate term.

I can live with the rest of your post but your Jason Witten comment is as homer as it gets.

Alright. We shall leave the matter to the AF brotherhood to decide.

Whose career has been greater so far? Witten and his 13 years with only one missed game? or Gronk, who is admittedly a better player, but has only played 6 years, and only two of which were full seasons?

GRONK has 65 TDs in 6 seasons WOWOWOW

And 9 TDs in 9 post season games.

Gronk by a mile. Gronk takes over games and is the key to the offense. Witten is a great player for sure, any team would be lucky to have him, but Gronk is an All time great. Arguably the top TE ever. Athletic freak in the same breath as Bo Jackson (for their respective positions)

Feel like Witten the last 2 years could have retired and you wouldn’t have noticed, because he didn’t matter to the game when he was in. Witten is definitely a top TE in his era and a great player, I fully respect his career so picking Gronk isn’t at all a knock on him.

Yeah you’re basically arguing longevity over dominance. For a single game there isn’t a person on planet Earth who would take anyone over Gronk. To me that’s the true test. Who would you want for one game? How much success have the Cowboys had in Witten’s 13 years where he’s only missed one game? He’s had a nice career but Gronkowski already has more touchdowns than him in 6 injury riddled seasons. He averages an extra 3+ yards per catch and most of that is due to the fact that he literally drags fully grown linebackers and safeties with him as he runs with the ball. And the reason he’s hurt so often probably has to do with the fact that guys have to divebomb at his knees because it’s the only way to get him down.

Does Witten even block? Admittedly I don’t watch a ton of Cowboys games (although I did watch one start to finish this past season http://gfycat.com/JitteryBlankFluke), so I don’t really know where Witten stands in terms of that aspect of the game. I’ve always kind of thought him as more of a WR than a true TE but I could be wrong. Gronk usually grades out tops in the league at blocking too. So there’s that whole extra wrinkle.

^Witten is a good blocker. That’s one of his best skills. He’s truly an all-around TE, unlike some of the other ā€œreceiving TE’sā€, like Jimmy Graham, who’s more of a receiver than a lineman.

I’m not arguing that Gronk is a better athlete or a better physical specimen. If they were both healthy and available, I’d take Gronk over Witten.

But my point is–Gronk misses four games a year. So there’s a 25% chance that he won’t even suit up.

Witten’s been doing this for 13 years, and he’s finally slowed down the past couple of years. Based on Gronk’s injury history, we don’t know that he’ll last another two. He might be the next Bob Sanders, Bo Jackson, or Gayle Sayers.
