Nitty Gritty - - - Lost in CFAI?

SO…her it is from a different angle.

I’m reading Book 3, CME or capital market expectations, specifically the part on Quant. So, for example I’m finding that every sentence contains many testable topics. How do I know what to commit to memory? At least with Schweser, they have attempted to weed out the fluff and they are trying to boil it down?

I’m totally lost.

For anybody who has been successful with CFAI, can you tell me how to know what to focus on? Did you focus on the LOS, EOC? etc?

If I was to make flash cards for example, do you only make them from the EOC and blue box? I obvioulsy can’t do it from the text, as there is WAY too much testable information to start making flash cards directly from the text.

One person told me to read both the CFAI and the Schweser which is not feasible for the schedule.

Help!

Your particular concern is very true for CME. There is way too much testable topics and believe me CFAI would give you all junk information mixed with needed information to test you here. Thats the major challenge in CME.

I made flashcards/notes from the CFAI books only. I never used Schweser for L3, used a lot of Finquiz - since they condense the material without leaving one bit from the original text.

  1. Made lots of notes on the CFAI book itself. Underlining stuff which are testable / Writing things which were clarified by folks in AF (which I first didnt understand)… So at the end my book was dirty!

  2. Formulaes went into my flashcards. There are tons of them in CME and they are all highly testable.

And I had this habit of spending 5-10 minutes a day, just flipping through these pages on particular topics. I only glance through them to have them fresh in my memory. I think it worked for me!

Good luck.

^^

This sounds like a very good advice from Sooraj.

Yep, good stuff. I’m exactly at the same point (reading on CME) and feeling a bit overwhelmed with the 100 pages of dense material - and I only covered about half so far. I’m trying to break it down, pretending these are actually 2 or 3 readings that they decided to combine into one; maybe that will help…

It’s driving me crazy…After every sentence I feel I’ve just read some testable material. I know though it’s not possible to test it all.

What the heck is Finquiz? Going to google now!

ah yes, I can feel the anxiety flowing in this thread…

For the benefit of every one I am pasting link to some write up by TRH. Read it when you have a bit of time.

I’ve already filled up an entire 250 page moleskin book and I just started on book 4.
