That’s really interesting? What does that relationship imply - a belief that you have a God given right to demand and accept bribes? That would certainly describe very well my experience with Indian politicians and government workers. Baksheesh is almost a divine right. If you have a link to that, I would love to read it.
Hi Chicken Tikka, While the original studies I referred to are in print (journals), here is an interesting link that I obtained by searching on Bing. http://epiphenom.fieldofscience.com/2008/04/if-religion-makes-you-more-honest.html. Disclaimer: I have only read articles that have referenced the original statistical studies of the relationship. I have not read the original studies which have appeared in philosophy journals which are read by the erudite folks.
Hahaha, thanks psriniva!

ChickenTikka, you said that you were raised in the US, and then moved to India. Are you an ethnic Indian?
A simple topic turned into a discussion about India - Quite interesting i must say:-) Though I do believe the “booming India story” is a story that people would want to read about - all the other problems you talk about are problems most Indians would be aware of, this is where a booming India story is a sort of hope somebody can hold on to praying, maybe things will chnage for the better. I would agree that the current booming India story is not inclusive of all sections of the society, it is just adding to the disparity but atleast it gives hope.Like the river that washes the minerals down from the hill to sea eventually the less priveledged would believe that this growth story might enhance their lifestyle, though currently the impact has been minimal.
