Off to Hong Kong!

Pimpin since been pimpin, stay pimpin. Brahmion went to the orient as well to launch a new fund - dude said he’s had a wicked case of yeller fever since, and there is but one cure. I advise you to obtain the same sickness. Hopefully you’re not like me and get tired of chineese food after a couple servings…

I’m calling shenanigans

I made the move from US to HK about a year ago, so far so good tough filing taxes is giving me a headache right now…

In a nutshell, it all happened due to networking. A former boss now works with the company in one of their other regional offices in Asia, and the head of research in HK used to work for another former boss. I had several phone interviews and a couple in person interviews with people from HK who had been in town on business. While the sector is somewhat different, the role is a senior research associate position. They weren’t looking for someone with direct sector experience; they wanted someone who could communicate, bring new ideas, etc - basically someone who’s been doing research for 5 or so years. I don’t have any ties to the region, nor do I speak Mandarin or Cantonese. The company takes care of the work visa process. Overall, the company is great, the sector is exciting, and Asia is the place to be now and over the long term. I’m moving over in about a month. Can’t wait! I’m jealous man! Do you have to fly to HK for interviews?

Congrats man. That sounds like a pretty sweet gig.

I would love to work in HK. Very curious on how you are going to overcome the language barrier or how you are avoiding it all together, especially since you are on the sell-side. As others on here, moving to Asia, preferably HK or Tokyo, is a goal of mine. Again nice work man and keep us posted!!! Hit up Lan Kwai Fong and if you’re feeling up for something extra shady, go for Wan Chai.

I’ll be covering a regional sector which spans some 11 countries - from Japan to India and many countries in between. So really, the only language requirement is English.
