Official: 2011 CFA L11 RESULTS

Pass It’s ironic that I flunked quant, given that I have a PhD in physics and it’s sort of my area of specialization. No worries–it’s great to have passed! I have to hand it to the CFA Institute. Taking the test is like wrestling an alligator and there’s plenty of cramming, but I’ve also learned a lot. It’s impressive that that the CFAI has been able to persuade 160,000 people a year to go through this process in the hopes of popping out on the other side. Pass here. Was expecting better in Econ and Quants, and less in others, but that is the " random " aspect of the test. Opened books couple of times in Jan and February, but started studying 2 weeks before the exam (initially planned to take a year off). Not pretty, but good enough to pass. Weak Econ and mediocre PM & FI were surprise. Just registered for L3!!! Will be in my sleep cell for next 4 mos.

Registering for L3 today! Feels good, dude! Feels good!

Me 3, get it? bhahaha, I know it’s lame.

This forum is a great resource. Thanks to all the great posters out here. Last year *studied from the CFA texts but wasn’t able to read everything (last chapter of Accounting and some Derivatives and Fixed Income. *took the CFA mock exam two days before the exam with no time to really revise and glanced at the online CFA sample exams *went though 95% of the Stalla Passmaster (helped greatly in Quant) *took the John Harris class without preparation *Purchased Stalla facts and formulas sheet and made notes on it *barely slept the night before; purchased a burger and felt tired for the afternoon session This time *studied Ethics and Accounting from the text and everything else was Schweser (I had already read the texts the previous year). *took the John Harris class (I had read everything and done EOC before going to the class so it was like revision). *did ALL of the EOCs once (as I read), twice for Accounting and Equities (while reading and during revision) and read Ethics twice. *took last year’s mock; revised; took this year’s mock; revised’ took 1 schweser exam revised; glanced at some Fixed Income questions from another schweser mock; revised *used the Ellan guide and made notes throughout my studies from Schweser (added notes to the guide so this was all I revised from when I took the mocks). *took the formula sheets from Schweser notes and added formulas as I read the chapters. revised this sheet for the exam. *went back and checked discrepancies between Schweser and the CFA text for each area that I thought was difficult. *barely slept the night before; forgot to check the room number; went to the regular place where the exam had been held for decades and had to race back to the other side of the complex (several blocks); panic set in during morning session; felt dizzy during the break; brought my own lunch; felt tired but alert during the afternoon session; THE KEY IS TO GO THROUGH THE EOCS & MOCKS

I’m pretty sure this earned a solid pass this year (none below 50, 6 above 70 including Ethics, FRA, and equity): Q# Topic Max Pts <=50% 51%-70% >70% - Alternative Investments 18 - * - - Corporate Finance 36 - - * - Derivatives 36 - * - - Economics 18 - - * - Equity Investments 72 - - * - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - - * - Financial Reporting & Analysis 72 - - * - Fixed Income Investments 36 - * - - Portfolio Management 18 - - * - Quantitative Methods 18 - * - What I find irritating is that if I had this year’s pass rate, I probably would have passed last year (and wouldn’t have spent another year cramming in all the stuff for level 2 which goes away on level 3). Here’s my band 10 breakdown from 2010: - Alternative Investments 18 * - - - Corporate Finance 36 - * - - Derivatives 36 - - * - Economics 18 - * - - Equity Investments 72 - - * - Ethical & Professional Standards 36 - * - - Financial Reporting & Analysis 72 * - - - Fixed Income Investments 36 - - * - Portfolio Management 18 - - * - Quantitative Methods 18 - - * Granted, I probably got killed by FRA (and should have done better), but looking at what passed other people this year I think it would have been good enough. Further, if I was in Band 10, then I was in the 6.1% of people that was below the passing 39%. This year, the pass rate was 4% higher at 43%. If nothing else there is a 4%/6.1% = 65.6% chance I would have passed last year. It’s frustrating to think that something completely arbitrary (i.e. the relative leniency of the graders) determined how much extra time I have to invest in this process.

Yes very annoying! I did some analysis and likely had a higher number of correct questions last year and failed with band 5 but somehow this year passed with the below…which I’m not sure is a passing grade, id guess somewhere around 60%…I’m just gonna sign up for L3 before they can stop me. This has got to be close to the minimum passing score. By my calculations, the maximum score you could have gotten with this matrix is 65%. Hey, a pass is a pass though, right? Mine wasn’t really much prettier.

Pass - not as well as I hoped. Glad I failed Quant and still got through. now its time to go the halo 3 for 3.

Pass, but not by much. I know I made 3 specific careless mistakes that haunted me for the past two months, and right until I clicked the email, I was certain I’d failed. Didn’t do EOC’s, but did all of Schweser’s EOC’s, 6 practice tests, and the mock. For L3, I’m going to hit the ground running a little bit earlier, and try to do more CFA EOC’s.

^ This person’s (skyro) maximum possible score (according to my dodgy spreadsheet) is 68%. Probably was right on the border and took the pass off one of the band 10’s who failed ethics. Lucky bastard!

Unexpected 1st time pass! Was hoping for score-band 8 or above when I clicked on the results link & couldn’t believe it when I saw the word… “Congratulations”… *sniff*sniff* The three columns on the right are marked with asterisks to indicate your performance on each topic area. Never give up on yourself man!! YES WE CAN!!! OBAMA! OBAMA! OBAMA! muahaha… LIFE IS SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!! woohoooo…
