Oil and Gas Modeling

Does anyone have a recommendation for books that specifically relate to oil and gas modeling? Thanks

There is a book that I’ve looked at in a Sproule course which sucked, http://www.amazon.com/Introduction-Oil-Company-Financial-Analysis/dp/159370044X Very introductory so don’t buy it. Our CFA society puts on an event every year through Wall Street Prep that I hear is very good from friends: http://www.calgarycfasociety.com/Lists/Events%20Calendar/DispForm.aspx?ID=42&Source=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.calgarycfasociety.com%2Fdefault.aspx%3FPaged%3DPrev%26p_StartTimeUTC%3D20090311T065959Z%26View%3D%7b01DCA73D%2d1A22%2d499E%2d8C07%2d31FCB655AB53%7d It looks like you just missed it :frowning:

I talked to the guy in charge of the Calgary society’s prof. development, he wants to substantially increase the # of courses throughout the year; maybe we can expect more opportunities than once annually for WSP or other modelling courses, going forward. Take a look at Joe Kan’s book - it’s for all sectors but he does a good job on energy & related sectors. It’s more conceptual & valuation-based, but of course those would be key components of a good model.

I would love to do the full WSP and this energy modelling course…if you pay for the course do you get the WSP program as well? Could see this as my '10 project, Aug results pending of course…

I think it would warrant sufficient demand for it to.

I already dropped $500 on the original pack and now they want me to drop another $500… a$$holes.

AliMan, did you do the full week Sproule course in Calgary?

Yes, I’ve taken it

brianr, it looks like this oil and gas modeling package is complementary to the premium package? Or am I wrong?

It looks like you’re learning off of oil & gas companies which was not an option when I purchased the premium pack. When I went through I was modeling CVS & competitors and JCP. Would have loved to have the option to choose an industry. I see that they also offer bank modeling which would have been interesting as well.

brianr, are you on gmail right now?

I am but I’m set to invisible.

i got the WSP original pack. i’m willing to sell it or trade it with someone. i have very little use for it now. so if you have some good stuff to trade, let me know. i wouldn’t be caught dead paying 500 for the oil and gas modelling. its not going to be that different really. 500 bucks please? more like 50 dollars. the original package was a rip off too.

I have the original WSP and also think it’s not worth the price. Split it with someone if you can.
