Putting MBA after the name is common practice everywhere south of the Mason Dixon Line and West of the Mississippi. But it still makes me cringe. I generally screen out any resume that has it; from experience usually there will be other reasons to follow anyway.

Question: Those of you who have a Linkedin profile and are still working through the lower two levels, how do you cite the level that you are at? If I pass Level 2 this June and the notice arrives in August, I think I’ll decompress from all that studying for about 16 months before I register for Level 3. Thus, I wouldn’t start a Linkedin profile citing “Level 3 Candidate” or “Candidate for CFA Charter” for a long time. Yet Level 2 is a good signal to the market. I am mulling over just citing “Passed CFA Level 2”. What are your suggestions?

You’re saying not to even put it on a resume…that’s a stretch.
^^Yeah, I usually just leave my resume completely blank. I figure if they want to talk to me they’ll figure out who I am and how to get a hold of me. Analize_This, that’s not what he meant, brah. He meant if the resume has it after the name. When the toilet say “out of order pee on the below floor” you probably just go right on the floor, don’t you.
When it says “pee on the floor” I normally ask myself “For how long?” I am west of the Mississippi, so I don’t get things right away.
As an FYI, I’m not Canadian. I work in NYC, but I remember from a past discussion that Canadian’s think it’s acceptable to put the MBA after their name. Here in good ol’ USA, I’d stick with nothing or CFA. DirtyZ, CFA
