Why is loss/gain from the sale of a business segment included as operating expense for a manufacturing firm? Also, can I assume that operating expense for a non financial firm would be ALL those transactions that are non financial in nature…so it’s binary- if it is non financial implies it is operating by default. Is that correct?
A business segment would produce operating income for a manufacturing firm, if that the segment is no longer producing operating income would decline.
