Orlando Shooting

Yes, we should disarm all citizens in order to stop gun deaths, because once we do, I’m certain criminals will follow suit and obey the new no gun laws. Too bad our borders are so porous that truckloads of people can get through. Oh wait, if truckloads of people can get through, does that means guns can too? Hmm.

It’s not that there won’t be criminals that can find guns. It means that criminals have to be much more organized to get their hands on portable machine guns. So someone who felt embarrased about seeing two men kiss and not being able to participate himself can’t just go to Wal*mart and pick up something to mow down 50 people. That means a lot fewer people with the ability to do that.

Meanwhile another few dozen people in Chicago have been killed, mostly by handguns.

Though this event has pushed Hillary to admit" Islamic terrorism" The shooter being outed as gay was a weird turn of events. Maybe this is like a Theon greyjoy thing where he suddenly found a need to “go back to his roots” and make a statement by betraying Rob /killing other gays

I understand both sides, and to bchads point its not like this kid was a hardened criminal. He was most certainly a giant p*ssy and probably wouldnt go down to “the hood” to find some of these types of weapons if they werent available.

Than again I got to fire my friends AK47 knockoff and it was pretty fun.

The Boston bombers killed / wounded 260 people using pressure cookers and components you can easily find everywhere. The govt can have my pressure cooker when they pry it from my cold lifeless fingers.

  1. No one has suggested to “disarm all citizens”

  2. When was the last time an armed citizen stopped a mass shooting in the U.S.?

  3. What is your suggestion? Pretend this isn’t a problem and continue with status quo?

Right but the number of people killed by guns in a typical year far outweighs the number killed by pressure cookers. So deal with guns first, and only later consider whether pressure cookers produce genuinely more succulent meat and veggies.

You’re usually better than this… but, this sounds like something nancy pelosi or Dianne Feinstein would say on CNN during an interview with Piers Morgan a couple years ago. A “machine gun” most certainly was not involved in this tragedy. An assault rifle was not even involved in this tragedy.

Semantics, they are all the same. These are all weapons of war which now surround innocent civilians.

Edit: yes it was an assault rifle. You’re confusing “assault weapon” with “assault rifle”.

Serious question for democrats who like to bash republicans about gun control (often rightfully so). Where are the criticisms of Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and President Obama? From 1/20/2009 until 1/3/2011, democrats controlled the senate, the house, and the white house. Where were the gun control bills during those two years? Where was the renewal of the assault weapons ban? In 2004, then senate candidate Obama said: I think it is a scandal that this president [Bush] did not authorize a renewal of the assault weapons ban." President Obama had two years to create a new ban, isn’t that equally scandalous?

Bills to reauthorize the ban were introduced between 2003 and 2008, both by democrats and republicans, but nothing again until 2013 (shortly after Sandy Hook), and that 2013 bill didn’t make it out of the democrat-controlled senate.

So democrats, where were you and your elected politicians in 2009 and 2010 when you had the power to pass any gun control laws you wanted? Why was there not even a single bill introduced?

I’m no gun expert, but wasn’t an AR-14 used? I’ve never officially checked, but I don’t think AR stands for air rifle.

Edit: Looking it up and it appears the guns used were SIG Sauer MCX semi-automatic rifle and a Glock 17. I’ll need BS to explain the difference between an AR and the MCX.

higg I think those pieces of legislation get trashed due to the blue dog dems who are pretty conservative and the support just isnt there. NRA lobby goes pretty hard, not sure why the dems wont just give up on this issue its never going to change.

The only piece I think they can find common ground on is allowing the government to restrict purchases to people on terror watch lists etc.

It was a Sig Sauer MCX, which is similar.

  1. I will refer you to Palantir:
  1. In case you haven’t noticed, mass shootings tend to happen in “Gun Free” zones (i.e. schools, churches, movie theaters, bars)… so, the idea that law abiding gun owners do in fact obey the law seems to apply here… versus criminals just not giving a shit what the law says. However, armed citizens protect themselves, their family, and their property everyday from armed criminals. It’s just not in the public eye as much as a tragedy involving dozens of people, because a story about a single life saved will not grab as many views as a story covering 50 people being shot.

  2. This is not a gun problem more than it is a people problem. Specifically, a radical islam problem. How can this guy not be the poster child for all followers of islam, but he can be the poster child for all guns and gun owners in the U.S.? On the same token, Dylan Roof became the poster child for all white folks and all gun owners.

the AR in AR-1 5 DOES NOT stand for “assault rifle”… rather it stands for armalite rifle… as in ArmaLite… the company that began making the common sporting rifle in the mid 20th century… so, there’s that

Try making braised ribs under 30 min without a pressure cooker. It can’t be done!

Rest assured, I’m not confused on anything regarding the difference between various types of guns… the common AR-15 is VERY different than the weapons of war (i.e. M-4 & M-16). The common AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle that LOOKS like a “weapon of war.” Definition of a semi-automatic is the discharge of a SINGLE cartridge per pull of the trigger. Whereas, the “weapons of war” have various other shooting options such as fully automatic or 3-shot burst (i.e. multiple discharged cartridges per pull of the trigger).

Fair enough. So what exactly makes a rifle an assualt rifle? Really asking. Too lazy to look it up, and a little scared to on my work computer.
