I keep hearing that level 3 is ~2200 pages. I just went over the 6 ebooks I have online (bookshelf website) and the total page count is ~1000. where is the descrepency? Have I missed half the reading?? Thanks!
I called CFA and asked. They said it is formatting (although they didn’t sound 100%…). I’m still a little concerned. I’ve printed the ebook and I’m reading ~ 10 - 15 pages an hour, but if it’s half the CFA printed books, that would be close to 20 - 30 pages an hour of CFA printed books. Also means I will READ (without doing problems) the entire curiculem in about 60 - 90 hours. Does this seem right? I read at a very average pace and it took me significantly longer to read level 1 and 2 if I recall…
I have both the printed curriculum and VitalSource, and have noticed that the page numbers are not consistent between the two. I haven’t made an exact check, but it seems that a ‘page’ on VitalSource will often be 2 or more pages in the actual printed text.
Vital source is all messed up. Font size seems different, page count that you see on the screen does not correspond to number of actual pages when you print.
Like whacim, I also have the Print version and did a page count tab for planning purposes. My total number (not counting summary pages or EOC pages) is about 1,670.
Thanks for the repsonses everyone, I appreciate it. Has anyone estimated how long it will take for them to read through the level 3 cfai material? As in just reading, with no questions.
I am using CFAI. I read each Reading once, underlining, at a fast pace (15 pages/hour), and then I go back and re-read it more carefully and take notes (8 pages/hour). So that would imply a total 320 hours just to read and take notes. I also do some problems after each Reading, so maybe this will inflate to 360 hours or so. My plan is to finish this stage in a total of 18 weeks, ending second week of April, so about 20 hours per week. I am currently on schedule. If I can stick to this plan, I will have 7 weeks left for review and practice.
@10 pages/hr and influences page count… you’re looking at 167 hours for only reading the text. Schweser is about 1200 pages total for books including questions, et. all.
If you haven’t cracked a book yet…you gotta be thinking Schweser.
No, I’m sure it doesn’t. That’s like saying I made 5,000 more dollars this year than last. Need to deal in percentages or else the data is pretty meaningless… Speaking of meaningless, let’s talk about # of pages some more instead of studying…
it was about 200 less hours. the amount of material is signifiacntly less than L2. thats the point i was trying to make since you seemed worried about it
grady…how many hours per day are you putting in or how fast are you reading!!! Good job. Do you think you’lll also finish the CFAI, or how far along are you in the CFAI.
impressive grady…Are you working the BB and EOC in the CFAI books as you move thru? I have a son, limited time, crazy commute. I can put in 3-4hr each night, but I’m often so tired because much of my studying doesn’t begin until after 9pm.
I wish there was a sure path to travel for this. I hate the uncertainty of this exam.
yes im doing both questions. this is my first time reading CFAI text for any level and its even wordier than i thought. im lucky in that i dont have kids or much responsibilities outside of work. the fact that people can pass withkids/family is amazing to me
if you can do 3/4 a night for the next 4 months you will be good to go i am sure
Grady, I have just bench marked you for good. You are right on track. Whatever I have been thru L3, I could gather it is all about attempting AM section qs. and bingo you are home. I am trying hard.
Storlab, don’t blame the obvious. I am a little relaxed as far as schedule is concerned. Imagine what good you would be doing to your son once he takes CFA challanege , if he takes.
It’;s sailable. I have my mental demons to battle with, not much with finding time. But I intend to do it.
