Thoughts on this policy? Is there any worse political policy than this? I hate it so so much. I cant justify paying employees for 3 months while they’re gone and not working, while another employee is busting their hump at the office and getting the exact same pay.
Think about it, if you owned a business, can you imagine the government forcing you to pay people for months that do not work?
No suprirse it is so popular and will likely become a law sooner rather than later. People love free handouts and having no accountability.
Trolling aside, I do disagree with the laws. Businesses have in large part already built this in to their benefit packages. Smaller businesses or startups that can’t handle the cost, have not, but that’s part of the whole risk/reward structure that comes with working at those smaller shops.
Because the government shouldnt be treating employees as some poor little victims. They are already receivinb compensation they agree to. No need to make employers give more to all the deadbeats that want to take off and get paid for doing nothing.
It does affect you if you dont have kids. The parents with the kids are getting paid just the same amount as you, but only contributing 75% as much. Surely you can see where that would be annoying.
people have kids, it’s literally our only purpose in life. people aren’t freeloading, they’re just getting benefits from their employer to allow them to balance a career and have kids as well.
How can you say he does not have a valid point that employers lose by hiring employees who have a lot of kids? Maybe I can increase my company productivity by hiring single guys only, and having a bro culture. I understand that there are societal benefits to paid leave and hence, I am not against this policy. However, someone - the employer - obviously loses, unless they get a tax rebate or something in return.
Having a child is a privilege and a choice, not an entitlement or a right. forcing one’s employer to pay you for something you chose to do while they get no benefit is nuts. not to mention how it unfairly throws those who chose to not have children or cant have children under the bus by making them compensate for their coworker’s absence while the coworker still gets paid just as much as them while sitting at home.
Exactly. it is typical american mindset of “oh, there is a problem in my life. rather than be accountable for myself, i will force the government to help me at someone else’s expense.”
Because they already miss more work and slow down career ambitions due to child. it will only get worse when paid leave passes. companies will be foolish to hire anyone other than single males, because now will they not only miss out on productivity because of unpaid leaves, but they will also have to PAY for every one of these people that takes the leave.
it’s a shame you cast me as hating women, when in fact the policy of paid leave actually helps women. not having paid leave would make things fair and equitable to all.
