Paid Maternity and Paternity Leave

I am shocked and appalled that the people on this site want the government to force companies/your tax dollar to pay for every deadbeat in the country to pop out babies with contributing nothing. This idea promotes a total lack of accountability and passing the buck. I dont want to fund people’s child rearing adventures.

Did you eat paint chips as a kid? Or did your parents not love you enough? You seem just miserable.

Anywho, it is in every one of these peoples interest long term for citizens to procreate. If people can not afford to have kids the birth rate plummets & the population gets top heavy. Look at the worries in Japan over the aging population and the crashing birth rate. The young need to support the elderly in every society since they came about. Mat/Pat leave is just incentivizing having children as it is in societies best interest for people to procreate. This is not a fully self sustaining system if we do not breed.

This birth rate problem could be solved by bringing in huge sums of immigrants but something tells me you wouldnt like that idea much as it would change the fabric of what this country is (i.e. not as white)

Who hurt you Vandelay? Who hurt you?

“It looks to me like the best part of you ran down the crack of your momma’s ass and ended up as a brown stain on the mattress!!! I think you’ve been cheated!!!”

“Did your parents have any children that lived? I bet they regret that.”

^brutal

Seriously, I want to know now too.

Why does it matter if Im 15, 35, or 65? The points are all still the same

^ People are asking because the astoundingly immature and unworldly stance you’ve taken on the issue and the angry and barely coherent way that you’re arguing the point. basically you sound like an angry teenager with issues.

You are correct, it doesnt matter. The points are still terrible.

How am I incoherent? You’re right, I am angry. I am infuriated that the lazy, unaccountable society wants to force me or innocent companies into paying for other person’s children while they voluntarily take off work. It’s sickening. Makes me furious. It’s beyond me how anyone can approve of this. Oh wait, people want it because they’re lazy and dont want to be responsible for their own decisions and feel entitled to having kids.

I dont think you are incoherent, just a moron. human society can not exist as a going concern without procreation. Stop being so concerned with yourself for one second. You really need to get a better world view, its not everyone feeling entitled, its our society doing what it needs to so people can procreate and we can exist into the future. You really seem like the kind of person who would cut off their nose to spite their face.

Don’t give me this garbage about it being neccessary to grow the population. US population has exploded just fine over the last 100 years without paid leave. Additionally, one could also be concerned about overpopulation. What if people like the idea of getting paid for no work so much that they start having even more kids? Could have the too-high population effect as well

Ah the ridiculous slippery slope argument. While that situation may occur occasionally it is so outside of mainstream thought that most people wont do it simply because they dont WANT to live their life that way. Most people want to live their life, have a few kids, work etc. These lazy people you cry about so often are not the norm. Get a grip, get over yourself, most advanced countries in the world do this and it works out completely fine for them so stop whining.

During the baby boomer age, paid leave wasn’t as necessary because you could support a household on a single income, generally the fathers while mom stayed home. That’s much more difficult now. Also my/our generation is having fewer children. Global overpopulation and high fertility rates are being driven by India, China, Africa, etc. As for just popping out kids just for paid leave? That’s short sighted and no educated person would trade 18 years of responsibility for like 6 months of salary. It’s NPV negative. Also an easy way around that is to cap the allowable number of children you can claim paid leave for at 2 or 3 children. That way you’re at population replacement and there is no incentive beyond that.

^ He also completely ignored the massive amount of immigrants over the last 100 years as if this was all working women popping out kids left and right. He is really clueless, but really angry so its not like he will see how wrong he is.

It’s an interesting political platform, though. Tough on immigration. Tough on women and babies.

Pretty much the Trump/Cruz platform

No wonder I like them so much

So it’s my fault people can’t afford to skip out on 3-12 months’ salary? Why penalize me by making me subsidize their lack of budgeting and saving ability. I am incredible cheap and save 75% of my income because I’m accountable and do not expect the government to pay for me.it would make the world better if poor people stopped having so many kids and growing up in poverty. If you cant afford 3 months without a salary, you sure as hell cant afford having a kid.

Also, you act as if the average person has the degree of financial aptitude to assess the NPV of an endeavor. Most people are absolute morons, totally incapable of such reasoning. it’s that poor financial acumen coupled with a desire for instant gratification that results in most people having a complete inability to pay for a sudden $1,000 expense.
