PCP Investigation

I sat for Dec 2010 L1, was accused of writing past time called. I received a postal mail in 1st week of January notifying PCP investigation and was asked for my response before 20 January. I emailed my response, which they acknowledged, and asked to verify my address, which I did. Since then, I haven’t received a word from them. It’s 13 April today. What is the process and timeline? Does it take this long or I have done something wrong? If anybody has faced or facing PCP investigation for exam-related conduct, please reply! Thanks, waiting!

Hey lazy @ss, why don’t you call or email the CFAI rather than sit around waiting for them to respond to you. Not being a douche but you’re probably screwed. Determining if you wrote after time was called is an easy call. It takes no judgment. It’s a much different situation than if you had been caught staring in your neighbor’s direction.

It usually takes a few months; after they receive your response it goes through the internal adjudication process. If they want to proceed further, they will send you a letter indicating that they are seeking disciplinary action against you to have you banned from the CFAI, which means you will not be able to obtain the charter. If you haven’t heard anything, it probably means they are going to cancel your test without a refund. If I were you I would send an envelope without a return address to the head of your local CFA chapter with a note about your situation. Make sure to include $53,700 in unmarked 100 dollar bills. Actually, you can just send the money my way and I’ll forward to them for you; do you want the address?

BREAKING: Cheating dick unsurprisingly gets cold reception from the AF crew.

What can one write in response to the accusation that you didn’t close the test at the right time. I mean, sure, one can say “I didn’t do it,” but that’s about it, right? I mean, what can you offer as proof. It’s really just your word against the invigilator’s, and you have a high incentive to lie if you’re guilty anyway. So “over time” seems to be something where you’re screwed if you’re accused. About the only thing that might help is to suggest that the proctor made a pass at you and you’re being falsely accused in revenge.

There might be a way out of this, actually. If the proctor were to mysteriously “disappear”, then there would not be anyone to testify against you. I know a guy who can help. Someone else on AF suggested that you contact Boris (boris@gmail.com). However, I have always found that the Italians are better at making it look like an accident. Anyway, let me know.

Dude if you got caught with PCP in the testing facility I’m afraid that’s not good.

You may get the CFAI’s standard one-year freeze, just to make a point.

Did you pass?

I had a similar problem the first time I sat for L1: during the exam I got caught writing down some calculations on my desk, instead of on the paper…I didn’t know I wasn’t allowed to write on the desk…anyway they started the investigation and kept me waiting for about a monht to get the final answer which cleared my position… I was told an investigation could take up to 6-8 months to be solved, but I told the girl in the CFA institute (the girl who notified me by email about the investigation) that I couldn’t wait 8 months for my results to be released, and two weeks later they cleared my position an released my results…I had failed band 10:-(( Your case may be different though and could take longer, as the underlying reasons for your investigation are not the same as mine…

PCP defence, just tell them you were on the PCP at the time

Why would you write calculations on a desk instead of a piece of paper?

When I took level I, I climbed onto the ceiling (I am like Spider Man) and wrote some calculations there. The invigilator started to say something but I hissed at him real loud and he backed down.

Sorry about that. Force of habit, you know.

They also frown on showing up on exam day wearing a MASSIVE sombrero. Found that one out the hard way.

I got the Black Scholes formula tattooed on my arms. Then I found out that they changed the curriculum and I didnt need to know the formula anymore. The invigilator still wrote me up. For my response to CFAI, I just linked a jpeg of my dagger tattoo. They immediatly backed down.
